1981 SS 440

I have a 81 ss 440 and I think its only running on one cylinder. It is running pretty boged down the acceleration is bad. And I took it on a ice covered road today and it wouldent even break 50 mph. I notices when I was trying to start it one spark plug was dry to. Is this problably whats wrong? And if so can that be fixed or is it shot?

I changed the plugs and that seemed to fix the problem. I could have swore those were newish plugs in it but I guess not. I never seem to have problems with that sled. maybe the 81 was a good year for the SS.

Yeah once I put a new belt on my SS it got a ton more pep I dident even know what I was missing. It seems pretty fast for a 440.

I had an 84 SRV with the same problem you explained. Try checking the compression. I ended up having to replace the piston in the bad cylynder as it was pitted and in pretty bad shape. That took care of the problem and it runs fine now. The other thing would be to clean all the carb jets out and check your reeds. Good luck, I have a buddy with an SS and it's a fun little sled.
