You people pretty much find places to ride year round? Or how does that go? Is there lots of good mountain riding? How about the Dark winters? Do you go for "night" rides often? I'm considering a move to the area and love snowmobiling. Give me the scoop. Any information would be appreciated....

first timer here. should be moving from anchorage to denver in about two months, but to answer questions about us...
No, you can't ride all year long. from nov to april is when there is snow. the mountains are bare the rest of the time.
i am still waiting to go riding. great mountian riding it's just a bit of a drive(about 2-5 hours from anchorage). One place is close Turnagain Pass- good mt riding and 1hour away
thats where they film turnagain hardcore sometimes. in december we still get 4 hours of daylight and that changes 5 minutes a day ,so yes there is night rides. in the summer we have 23 hours of light though. like i said every day 5 minutes different
how about living in denver closest to just get out and ride for a day trip? 3 day tripp?

I've been riding for a couple of weeks Near Eielson AFB(21mi southeast of Fairbanks), 6"-10" in open areas, more in the woods, packed trails are great for my sleds and I haven't hit any dirt/gravel lately. The pipeline is clear and great, just be sure to stop at a pumpstation or a alyeska office and show them your drivers licence before you ride on the pipeline road but I'd say thats the best riding around right now. It's dark by 4:30pm and I get off work at 4 so most of my riding is done at night. I scout the trails on the weekends and ride the ones I know during the week.

I have ridden as late as May, but it's pretty crappy, just a reason to have the sled out one last time. I live in Wasilla, and work in Anchorage.So that keeps me pretty much in between the good close riding spots. I'm within an hour of a great spot, depending on wether I'm at work or home.Later in the year, usually around the middle of December, I can leave right from the house, but that's just a ditch bang ride, but still fun (I guess).

I love night riding. Little bit of cabin hopping down the trails in the Caribou Hills (Kenai Peninsula) at 10-midnight to say hay to all the people. Go sit out in the snow on a clear night and watch the stars. I love it.

LAst weekend Petersville got hammered. Ive been riding for the past 5 weeks there. They had alot of snow, then it got warm, then it dumbed again and last weekend was insane riding. Eureka is one place i love to ride. We have trapping cabin about 50 miles out and even when theres about a foot at the lodge, i can promise there will be 5 feet untouched by our cabin.
