speed boat plz help!

ok this only happens when the motor is hot and has been running for a lil while, when we are idling, then you go to take off, it will sometimes stall out like its starving for gas, one guy said it might be the accelerator pump, dont know if that would do that, weve tried cleaning out the carb, and we have tried adjusting them to, any ideas! plz help

our boat has a carb and every once in a while it happens to us when you stomp on it when your trying to get a skiier out of the water.

clean out your fuel filter...or check your plugs. mybe they've got crap on them and your not gettin a good enough spark when you get on it...thats my only suggestion

might want to throw some dry gas in also. Could be water in the gas also. Just a thought.

What kind of engine? Outboard, inboard or I/O?? I would be checking different issues depending on the type of motor.

First thing I would do..........swap plugs if not done in awhile.
Check the point gap inside the distributor. If they are closing up due to wear on the distributor cam follower, it will cause a rough idle. I think for most Chevy marine engines the gap should be .019 with the points at the max opening on the dist cam. Check your rotor & cap for cracks or arcing while you're in there.

I actually had my boat quit on me a couple months back. The dist cam follower wore enough where the point gap went to zero. Luckily, I had the right tools to fix it on the spot to get it running & get my butt back home. Next stop was to buy a new set of points & condensor. Runs great, now!!

Which fuel filter did you replace?? There is a screw-on one (similar to a car oil filter) on the lower left front of the engine; this, I believe also acts as a water separator. There may also be one behind the fuel inlet to the carb; check that if you haven't already.

You should also check the carb accelerator pump.....do this by removing the flame arrestor/air cleaner & have someone open & close the throttle lever while you look down into the carb (engine off, of course!!). You should be able to see 2 good squirts of fuel; 1 into each venturi above the throttle plates. Those "pump shots" are what give the engine the needed extra fuel for hard acceleration from a stop. If they look weak, then investigate the accelerator pump on the carb.

Let us know how that works out!!

BTW - Congrats on getting up on the skis. Won't be long before you'll be dropping one....keep practicing!!

inboard/outboard. The engine is inside the boat, but the driveline/trim controls, etc are outside.
