I have an older Kawi 440 Standup, a new Kawi STXR(race ski) and an older Yamaha Superjet Standup that all run great. In fact I ride the Superjet ALL the time and have never had a problem.
As long as you take care of them, install a bilge pump and winterize they are easy to keep.
The Seadoo XP is a awesome ski for handling... one of the best out there to date. My STXR probably comes in second but is much larger. Stand-Ups are a whole different breed but once you get the hang of turns they are a blast.... I never ride my new sitdown anymore if that give you an idea.
Rule of thumb... if you are going to ride saltwater don't get a Seadoo...... and if you ride saltwater flush it out EVERYTIME.

i did do that... i actually work for a powersports store for years and work on them and sold them.. i am a freak when it comes to maintnence...i have lived on salt water my whole life and still do! let me tell you, saltwater, no matter what you do to avoid destroys everything!! of course it doesnt happen instantly but overtime it catches up! If i lived on a lake i would buy one right away!...im not saying dont buy one or dont use it on the ocean but if you ONLY use it on the ocean than dont expect not to have to dish out some cash in case something desides to stop working, saltwater has that effect.
Also if someone was to buy a ski for the ocean why not a SeaDoo?

Ahhh I hear ya. Saltwater will tear up a ski faster then fresh, even if you do everything possible to avoid it.
I really don't know why people say no Seadoo for salt but it is just the rumor that goes around..... not everyone will agree of course and I am sure there are plenty of Seadoo's that do great in saltwater.

I wish I could give you some truth to the statement but I honestly can't. I am far from biased on any brand but I can only speak what I have heard. I love my Kawi and Yami but if the right deal came along I would buy a SeaPoo too. I have a friend with a Seadoo and he hasn't had a problem since 1998 (he has a 98 XP) when he bought his ski. I really think it has a lot to do with flushing it and babying the hell out of it..... if it is kept in saltwater.

I've got a 2000 Sea-doo XP. Fastest PWC on the lake. It's bone stock and we're pulling 68mph out of it on radar. Maybe we've just got a good machine but it hauls some serious @ss. It's a great wave jumper (except the front bumper pops off when you do) and it carves like ice skates on a fresh pad. I love this machine and wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm just a little concerned that the engine is so high strung that one day it's just gonna blow. Oh well, over 100 hours on it and it still runs amazing.
