Fuel filter starving engine on 900 triple?

Do any of your watercraft have in-line fuel filters? I have one on mine, and I think it may be causing the ski to starve for fuel. (Someone put it in there, it's not factory). I think it may not be able to supply fuel fast enough for my 900 triple. If no one else on this forum has one on theirs, I might take mine out. Any help will be appreciated.

not sure about my boat, but my cousins old Chapparal 1800 had one, it was so full of crap last summer when we cleaned it. It made the boat run MUCH better.

I wouldn't take the filter out if it was stock equipment, I'd just replace it, but that's just me

ya i would just replace it, go to a high flow type filter, like i know on all the cats theres a see through one and its rated at 15 gallons per hour, that should be plenty. Maybe the lines were changed to smaller ones on it?, you could probly upsize your linse and i imagine that would help. when does it seem to starve? idle, WOT, 1/2....

It's an aftermarket filter, and the ski leans out around 1/2 throttle and up.I'd be just cruising along and it'd bog. Putting it to half choke would fix it. But it does not do it all the time. I don't think mine came with a filter from the factory, so that's why I'm suspicious of it. I might take it out of the line and try it.

well, i dunno if you've ever noticed, you seem like a very knowledgable guy, and have you ever seen the crap those filters collect. Are the carbs freshly cleaned?, does sound like a starvation problem. Fuel Pump maybe? see how much a pump runs for it, a friends quad had the same problem, the fuel pump was going on it.

Yeah, filter is clean, but I haven't messed with the fuel pump yet. I'll check into it and let you know what I found. Just wanted to see if anyone else had had this issue before.
