Tigershark wont' start, only get 1 click and puff of smoke

I have a 97 Tighershark Monte Carlo 1000.
We took it out probably a month and a half ago and had no problems with it.

Went to go take it this weekend and it wouldn’t start.
The only thing that happens when I push the starter is 1 click sound per button push coming from the battery area. If you hit the starter button several times or hold it down a small amount of smoke comes from under the engine towards the front of the engine bay(the battery is in the back part). It is not the type of smoke that is oil or fuel. It looks like the type of smoke you see when something is melting or electricity is burning something.

Any ideas? I don’t want to take it to the shop if I don’t have to.

Starter relay or the starter itself is shot.
Try jumping directly to the starter terminals to see if it will turn over.

RJ seems on the ball. I'd bet the starter more likely but the relay is a possibility.
