The adventure

Last Sunday I helped my friend sail his boat from Petoskey to Mackinaw City. We left about 5:30am. It took 14hrs, and 10min. Here's some pics. Don't mind the date on the pics. It's 1 day off.

The 1st is my friends Hoby(left also the owner of the boat), and Larry(right)

pic 2 is just b4 sunrise

pic 3 is looking back toward Petoskey. We just beat the fog. We are about 10mi out.

pic 4 is White Schulls(SP) lighthouse. This is where we turned east toward Mackinaw, and is where the fun began. We were heading into an east wind. From there it took 11hrs to get to the bridge.

pic 5 if you look on the horizon, you can see the Mighty Mac bridge. WE're about 20mi from it.

Here's a few more.

Many of you have drriven over this bridge. Here's what it looks like under it. You'll notice the safety net for the maintainance workers attached under it.

The next pic is the south tower. It doesn't look that big when yur driving on the bridge, but when yur at water level it's friggin huge.

This is a pic of 1 of the many friehgters we saw. This is about a 1000ft. ore boat

Finally the last pic is the boat we sailed. It's a 1970 27' Columbia. we arrived in Mackinaw about 7:15PM.

Yah, it was fun. I just wasnn't used to the boat heeling over at 25 degrees . I don't really get a chance to get out sailing much, but I learn a little bit more everytime I go out. After we docked, it still felt like I was on the boat for the rest of the night...lol

i learned to sail on a 12' sunfish, single mast, and when you heel that boat over you feel like your going to kiss the water. granted if you do bite it, you just gotta stand on the keel and flip it back over. but on a big boat, thats gotta be a different feeling.

I never drank a drop until we docked the boat. I was in charge of plotting the course on the map. I would start to feel alittle queezy after a few mintutes
