remember saftey this season

I would just like to share alittle something.

Today my boss, and I started working back on the island in Cederville. We are using an old Pontoon boat to get back , and forth. We were hauling material ( about 1000lbs.)back to mainland with 1ft waves, and one wave come over the bow, and the boat started sinking. The boat was driving into the water ( kinda like how the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. We were submerged in about 6in of water then the motor died, and wouldn't restart. I jumped to the back of the boat, and immediately switched gas tanks. thankfully the motor started. We hit the gas, and the bow come out of the water. We were 1 second from starting to throw bricks off the deck, and we evenly distributed the weight on the deck. The boat is rated for 1700lbs. After we got to the dock, I told him that I was gonna start drinkin on the job today. He say," that's fine with me. I'll buy you two (He doesn't drink). Morel of the story is. Always look at the tag that gives the max weight rating.

Coast Guard rescue might not have been a realistic option. Not sure how far you were from shore, but considering the water temperatures this time of year, you wouldn't have lasted long in the water. Hope you guys at least had PFDs on. Those would keep you up and alive a while longer even if you lost consciousness from hypothermia.

At those temps, it would have only made it easier to recover the bodies!! But Thanks goodness Captain Mouse & crew made it to safety!!

I sunk a boat before. It was the middle of the summer, and about 20 feet of water though. This sounds a little scarier
