Still no fire........

Hey all, as I have been working on that 1973 440 motoski....several of you have hepled give me an idea of how to get it up and running again....well just today I got and installed my parts......I replaced the points.......the condensers and the coils and plug wires........and now its worse than before.....before I had a little juice coming from the condenser to the coil......5 volts....now 1 still has .5 volts and the other is dead.....I do electronics for a living so my soldering to the condensers is top notch.....mabey I have the points gaped to far out....anyone know the correct gap....I gapped them to what the old ones were....so I figured they'd be close.....but other than that anyone else know what to look for???????

That's great news!

I'll remeber that I've heard a case where it was defnitely the coils.

Now, just pray for snow.

yea, 1 coil had an open ground.......and I had my 260 on D.C. thats y the low readings(volt wise) I'm used to working on motorbikes with 12 v d.c. systems....so my points/condensers would have worked all along(they checked out "ok" in comparison to the new)....but the new work much better....much better spark.....I could actually see the bright blue spark off the plug in the sunlight......man did it start up.....Verrrrrooooom.....so yea now its just a wait for snow.....and in southern IN, I may even settle for a heavy frost on the yard to try it out.....and we do get several 4" or so snows....sometimes more.....but all in all not much......but when we do.....I'll be trying this thing out

yes it is a good feeling......esp. if I had'nt taken it off that guys hands it would have been hauled off to the dump......I cleaned and polished it up......heck from 15 feet it looks new.....1 more question......it did'nt have an air cleaner when I got it...just some ductape over the carb opening.........does it need one....when it runs I need to use a little choke sometimes keep it going......it seems like mabey it would like an aircleaner or some sort of restriction.....????????

most of the older sleds had a "silencer" that did restrict the intake some. you can run without it but you will get the fuel blow back bath. if you can not find the part that came on it you can make one out of a liquid detergent bottle.
