HELP Screwed up my carbs.

I'm still trying to calm the idle down on my 1980 440. I understand where the choke adjustments are although I have then messed up now. I see the screw adjustments with the springs around them. Have them each opened up 1 1/2 turns. The screw to the left and bottom are screwed in all the way, don't know what they are for. And I dont know how many turns to screw out the actual throt. cables on the top. I have it so out of wack now I cant start it. Would anyone here be able to get me into the ball park on adjusting these things out?
Jess

The small screws near the intakes (without the springs) is the low speed air bleed screw. These should be open 3/4 to one turn out from seated. The big screws with the springs are the idle screws. You should adjust those until your sled idles at a good RPM. Rule of thumb is turn the idle up so the track just starts to turn when off the ground, then back it off a little.

The cable adjustment itself should be done after you use the idle screws to get it idling where you want it. You may need a carb synchronizer to get them both idling at the same place.
Once it's idling where you want it, adjust the cable so the throttle lever moves about 1/8" before the throttle slides start to move.

Then you might have to adjust the small screws to get the throttle response of the sled better when you are just cruising and you give it the throttle- those screws control that.

You're welcome, and Semper Fi to you! The best way to adjust the cable is to put a finger into each carb so you can feel when the slide starts to move. If one moves before the other, turn that one in to give the cable a little slack so they will both move at the same time. Let me know how you made out!

It's so great to find help like you just gave me. I worked on the 440 carbs just like you told me. It all came together, and runs like a stripped assed ape. Thanks so much for the help. My wife and I are going to take it up to Vail Thursday and see what it's got.
Again, THANK YOU, Jess
