Got the Spring installed need adjustment help

Well it took a while but we got the spring for the driven clutch and installed it. I did place it in the the number three hole (the one that is was in when removed). There only seemed to be one hole in the opposing side of the clutch so that is where it went. I then then slide the helix onto the shaft and turn it 1/3 of a turn to tighten the spring and then pushed the helix on the rest of the way and installed the clip and bolt. After reinstalling the belt we started he up and went for a ride. It works fine but... It does seem to rev to high at too low a speed. I have no way to judge rpm other than sound, but it just seems high. I am assuming I need to move the spring to a different hole on the helix. The assumption is that it needs to go into a lower hole, is this correct? Does anyone know what the factory setting is on a 75 Panther

Once agin thanks for all your help guys.

Always start on the center hole.

RJ thanks for the reply, but I am not sure what you mean by the center hole. On the Helix side of the spring I have holes numbered 1 through 4. Currently it is on hole three, where it was when I removed the broken one. On the clutch side of the spring, I only see one hole. I'll try to post a pic a little later after I take it back apart. I was going to try hole 2 on the helix side, but not sure if I should just go to hole 1.

Well I moved the spring into hole number 2 on the helix. However I am still a bit confused as to the results of moving it. It does seem like it will be traveling a bit faster at the same RPM, but it also seems like it is stronger out of the hole. That seems a bit contradictory from my knowledge of gearing. I posted a couple pics of the adjustments. Can anyone tell me if there is any other adjustment on this secondary clutch or should I try hole number 1 on the helix?

Because, you are dealing with a CVT, rather than a geared transmission.
The shift is controlled by tension of the springs, rpm, arm weights, and the helix all working in opposition with each other.
