suzuki nomad with a rotax 440

OK I bought this last year, some of you probably remember me LOL sorry if you do LOL, finally got the carb rebuilt and got it running but it was running really ruff, so like last year I looked at te exhaust pipes and one was wet, so I changed the plug out and when Iwent to start it again it felt like the whole engine was electrified cause when I went to shut the choke manually I got shocked LOL, and after looking around I could see sparks everywhere the spark plug wire was touching anything LOL and I could see the spark "walking" down the side of the plugs, so I shut it off and made sure everything was attached properly and when I went to try it again the pull start rope broke AGAIN ;-(

so 2 questions

1 what would cause this to electrify the whole engine?

2 is it possible/where would I find and electric start for this sled? even the kind that you plug an extention cord in and push a button? my snowblowers have these kinds thats why I thought I would ask

The plug wires are "leaking". Best fix is to replace them.

Are you using the proper recoil rope? CLothesline won't cut it.

Yes it was the proper rope, but it was old and ready to go ;+(,
Is a sparkplug wire just a plain old spark plug wire for these or do I need a specific one?

I don't remember is that engine you used has cd or et ignition [points or not].
if ET, use solid core cable, if CDi, use carbon core cables

If your sled has points and breakers, there will be stranded wire in the center of your plug wires. If it is a CDI unit (meaning there should be a "little black box" that feeds a signal to the coils) then the plug wires will have a carbon impregnated polymer core.

You can either examine where the trigger line to the coils comes from, or just look at your old wires (provided they are the correct wires in the first place). Usually the stranded wires for a breaker point system will thread over a threaded post on the coils and on the plug cap with a weather preventative slip cover. Knowing your wires are bad, try "stripping" the end with a pair of wire cutters. If you hit actual stranded wire, voila! If you cut the whole thing with light pressure, its a carbon wrap core.

Hope it helps.

Figured this would help more than an explanation:

The yellow wire on top is a carbon wrap core.
The black wire on the bottom is a stranded core wire.

(Dont go by the insulator jacket color, they each come in every color under the sun)

As a side note: the wire itself can be purchased by the foot, thus being able to re-use the caps in many cases. Quite often, on Porsche race wire sets we simply replace the wire and utilize the original boots. Why? The wire can be purchased for about $30 for a 4 banger, -vs- $160 for a whole new set!! just in case your doing this on a budget
