Scorpion Sting 440
Hello,
I am looking at a Scorpion Sting 440 with no spark. My first question is what ignition does this sled have (points or CDI)? If you have any other advice on what to check, that would be appreciated.

I don't know for sure. Seller says it is a '72. I didn't think the Sting 440 was started until '77-78.

71 was the first year of the Stinger model and all of the Scorpion line was ET ignition.
It was not until after they had been bought up by AC that any had CDI.
So, to answer your question, it has points and if a 72 it is a JLO engine (2F440/3)with a WahlBro WFA-3 carb.

Sting was made from 1977-'80 by Scorpion, and in 1981 by Arctic Cat. (Basicly a Jag 4000, which had CDI ignition)

It is not the "Stinger," it is a "Sting."
It is the 2nd picture with the high up headlight and vents in the lower hood area. So would I be able to use AC Jag 4000 parts for it? I know how to go through a points ignition system but I don't know how to test a CDI.

Yes all parts are interchangable with the Jag.
@eli346 You mean David's Vintage Snowmobile Page?

Stng ident
AFTER LOOKING AT YOUR PIC FOR A WHILE...IT IS VERY POSSABLE THAT YOUR SLED IS AN 80-81...WITH A 79 HOOD ON IT.... THE 80-81s HAD cdi....BUT IF THE HOOD WAS REPLACED SO MIGHT THE THE ENGINE BE....IF YOUR SLED HAS A IN OUT SQUARE TYPE OF KILL SWITCH...SIMIMLAR TO WHAT THE 80 81 PERIOD CATS DID THEN IT MOST LIKELY HAS A CDI....
