1974 Snowbug
Picked up this 1974 Snowbug recently. Anyone have any technical info on these? They were manufactured in Sudbury, Ontario by Original Equipment Manufacturer, a division of Noront Steel.
Hey Stangcruzin, do you still have yours?

Sure do.I also have a '74 like yours, well parts of it anyways. It's cool to see what it use to look like. The '74 is smaller than my '71.I'll get a pic of the two of them together.

I couldn't resist for $50.
I also picked up a book on the history of the inventor and the sled as published by the Highway Bookshop in Cobalt, Ontario. They have a 40% off sale on their books so if you are interested, give them a call at (705) 679-8375.

If I get some time, I'll look through the parts box to see if all the drivetrain stuff is there. The jackshaft and secondary was taken apart and the old guy never put it back together. I'll have to find out what belt it needs 'cause it didn't have one included. It probably takes the same belt as all other early 70's sleds. If you can do me a favour, measure around the belt (belt length) and measure the width. That way, I can verify the new belt before buying.

I checked Dave's site and he has a few older Snowbug pics. When I get it mobile, I'll take some pics and send them off with a donation to keep his site running.

It is a pretty unique sled but like the Hus-Ski (later named Bolens Diablo Rouge) it never caught on as a mainstream sled. It was geared low for pulling and would float on it's 26"-wide track over most snow conditions of the North. It was widely used as a utility sled by trappers, prospectors, explorers and forestry workers up here.

On the return trip, I hit it and broke something off it. During the spring, The broken part was about 6 feet off the ground!
Can't wait to post my own Vids.

I haven't looked for parts yet but as this sled is mostly custom manufactured, I can pretty much make what I can't buy off the shelf.
You might have some luck at this site Antique and Classic Snowmobile Club of Canada.
