1975 john deere 300 need help

i have a 1975 john deere 300 last night i was cleaning the carb and every thing lookd ok so i put it back on. i went to reconect the gas lines(i replaced them of corse) and when i turned it over the gas wasnt being pulled through the lines why is this

It will take a bit for the gas to be pulled back up to the carb.
Easiest way to do this is to prime the engine and let it doo the work for you.

umm when i cleaned then carbs on my JD 400 it took forever for it to pull gas through the lines. and did u make sure u have the right lines hooked up the return going to the tank and the in going in or do u have them turned around? that could be also.

the lines should be in the right place and when u say prime the engine what do u mean like a push mower primer ball

No, just squirt some mixed gas into the carb and start it up.

You can also blow in the gas tank or better yet blow in the gas tank while someone pulls it over. However this is probably not good for your health and the priming method by putting some gas in the cylinders or holding the throttle wide open, squirt some gas in the carb and let go of the throttle and starting is better. The motor wont run for long but after it dies you shouldn't have to pull it over to many more times to get it started. You might have to prime it multiple times. Clear lines are nice because you can see where the gas is at.

I have a 76 JD 300, I pulled the flywheel of to change points it looks like the cam bushing pulled of the flywheel and I can't get back on, is there a trick to it.

Shoot a little premix into the engine like the others say but if that doesn't get gas moving pull the carb apart again and free up the float needle. They don't stick all that often on Mikuni carbs (they sure do on Tillotson though) but when they do no gas gets pulled into the carb. I had this a couple weeks ago with my Pantera. I redid the pump only to have it be the carb.
