need help identifying exact year for 80's yamaha excel III 340 fan

You need to contact a Yamaha dealer with the VIN and they can tell you.

Unlike the other manufacturers, they do not include year and date in the serial number.

You can always search David's Vintage Snowmobile Page. He has a website full of brochures from all vintage machines from the 60's to 1989. If you browse through the Yamaha section you will be able to visibly verify your make/model/year. For future reference at least.
