1980's Yamaha Excel 340 F/C HELP!!

ok, just joined up, and looking for help. my dad bought a $200 yamaha excel, and he took it up to his buddy's house to get it 'running good'. well, ive been outside for the past 2 hours, and it WILL RUN, if i hold the throttle halfway down. the second i let outta it, it bogs down and stalls. there were points where i got it to idle fine, but thats with the one adjuster screw at the very front of the carb, turned tight.

anyone help me plz lol,,,, i forgot his birthday and i wanna get this going in tip top shape for when he gets back home.
