72 Puma 440 Engine No Spark

I have a 72 Puma 440 Engine that has no spark. The motor was running fine and then in the process of rigging up a keyed ignition switch I accidentally sent 12v from the battery to the black wire coming off the ignition (the black wire is normally open while running and grounded to kill the motor). Ever since I did this I lost spark.

Anything I can do or did I toast the CDI?

72 was ET, rather than CDI. It has points and condenser in it.
You probably fried the whole mag unit.

Anyway to troubleshoot this?

Below the carb is a white cover where the spark plug wires feed into. If I remove that cover I have two units. One is black and round with no writing on it and below that is a silver rectangular box that says "CDI Ignition".

I assume 12v to the Ignition isnt a great idea.

Those are the external coils. If it says CDI on anything, the engine is likely not original. Those years only had Electric Transfer (points) up till 76.
Look on the engine tag for a manufacture year.
