77 Arctic Cat Pantera 5000 F/A

I just got this sled, and it is in very nice shape with only 1080 miles for(little gloat here) $100.

I had to clean the carbs, but nothing really out of the ordinary for a sled that has sat unstarted for 10 years.

Is it normal for a hesitation from off idle(1K) to 3K RPM's and if not what can I do to fix it? I had replaced the fuel filter already(didn't change the hesitation), but don't know if the one I put on it would work correctly(dealing with flow).
Thanks for any advise.

Idle should be 1200 to 1800 rpm. 1000 is a little low.
Check that the air screw (that's the little one closest to the air box without a spring on it) is 3/4 to 1 full turn out from bottomed. This controls the idle and throttle up to the first quarter. Also check that the choke plunger is seating fully so that the idle os not too rich.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I'll bump up the idle a little bit.

This thing screams from 3-8K without any issues.

I'll get some pictures, hopefully within the next week.

Awesome site, great to be part of it.

Jets

Don't just clean the carbs, take them apart and replace the jets including the pilot jets. These are too hard to clean and they are cheap to replace. Dirty pilots could be the cause of your stumble.

Great idea.

Buddy of mine stopped over and was talkin with him, and he said the same thing. He chased a problem around for awhile on one of his sleds and that was the problem. There does seem to be an excessive amount of rubber on the gaurd and on the belly pan. A '78 Polaris TX 440 that I have with twice the amount of miles and original belt doesn't have that much "debris" in and arount the gaurd.
