1985 Yamaha ss440 recondition

Hey Everyone,
As promised I am starting my reconditioning of Pam's 1985 Yamaha ss440. I will post pics as i go along for all to see and give suggestions. Thanks to Locky we acquired this sled for my wife last year and it ran great. What I'm going to attempt to do to it is a general gut and clean of the entire body and most of the major parts including a paint job.
The last ride of the year a boggy came off and busted a whole through the track. I just picked up a blue 80ish 440 from a real nice guy in Dorr, MI for $150. It had 95% of the parts i needed so i will take pics on Friday or Sat when i pull it out of my shed and start taking it apart

DennisMC if you are still out there I'd still would like another one so that we could have 2 sleds (As Pam put it we would look so cute with matching sleds ) women

So far this 4th of July was pretty productive for Pam's sled.
I took the track off and a lot of the other transmission parts (lets hope i remember how to put it all back together) After having this sled on its side i discovered why the previous owner put a piece of alum on the underbelly. It was pretty rotten. I scouted for some metal at some local stores and was dumbfounded when i saw the price for a 18x30 piece of 3/32. I'm glad i was cheap i remembered that i had some alum diamond plate in the shed. so i made a pattern and put a boat load of rivets with a touch of heat for the curves. Once that was done I'm now looking at the rear suspension and how to clean this up. I not sure if i want to use sand paper (high labor low cost, chemical rust removal low labor high cost, borrow a sand blaster med cost and labor with an IOU attached) Any have any suggestions? I found a few parts that are on the parts sled that this one is missing so she might actually have a suspension next year. I have to decide on the paint design for this sled i included a pic of the sled and the paint colors if anyone wants to give a hand on design and color scheme. Pam's only request is that the skies stay blk so that if they have to be replaced color will not be an issue. Paint sachems and designs are my short fall I'm really bad at coming up with a simple but cool design ( I suggested blue flames for the side all Pam did was roll her eyes and said ask you guys.)
