What is the difference between the gp 292 and sl 292?

Motor or chassis???

Is there a major difference like slide rails? Are there any vintage sites where i can find more info on the Yamaha's? All i can ever find are ski-doo or Arctic cat sites.

Yeah i have been trying all different variations in my searches. I get a bunch of crap on ebay mostly. I have found a crap load of sites about vintage sleds, but nothin on yamaha.

71-73 same chassis:engine 18hp hr carb,27hp hd carb...74+ alsocalled gp300 the 27hp engine is a reed valve with a hr mikuni ; sm still same 18hp hr carb.some piston design changes but nothing special

Can the hd be mounted on the intake if it came with an hr? Or do you have to switch jugs?

Was there any difference in head design?

can not put the bigger carb on with out an adapter and you will not gain if not lose driveability .you will have to change cylinders a good choice anyway. as for head the is a little differance between years and sleds but not enough to search for,the main thing is the direction the sparkplug points older seems to lean towards the carb side the new sleds towards the exhaust side

I can get my hands on a GP 246 for 50 bucks, has everything but a hood, not sure of the year though. Would that be worth pickin up for a parts sled for the 292? Does the gp 246 have the larger carb?

I measured the carb on my SL. It has a bolt pattern of 2.250 This is an HD carb??? Is this the same carb thats on the 27hp engine?

246 is the same chassis as sm/gp 292. the sl engine is the small carb now rember the reed valve enging also used small carb mount (these have a 4 boult square plate with reeds betwwen carb and motor:gp292 "F")

Ok now what is the size of the small and large carbs so i can measure them and figure out what i got. What year did they have the reeds?

1974-1975 gp292f & 1976 gp300 had reeds not sure but think it is @ 2-7/8

I just picked up a gp246 197? for $50..couldnt go wrong with that. From what i have found the first year that the 246 came out was in 1974. The carb does not have the 4 bolts to the reeds, only 2 bolts and what looks like a normal spacer.

Did they make the gp246 before 1974 without reeds??
