Anybody heard of an Arlberg?

I just came across a 69 or 70 "Arlberg" for sale. Single cyl. Sachs engine. Anybody heard of these, who made them, etc.? Seller says they were only made for a year or two. (This one is in central Alberta).

They were made in 69 and 70. Five models were offered in each year. All the 69 sleds had single cylinder Sachs engines 297cc or 368cc depending on the model. In 70 three models had single cylinders Sachs engines, 277cc/293cc/340cc and two models were available with 2 cylinder Kohler engines 399cc. I've never seen one in real life, just in pictures. They were just one of the 75 or so companies making and trying to sell snowmobiles in the Golden Age.

Forgot to mention, they were made in Canada by a company called Allcock Laight & Westwood Ltd located in Bramalea, Ontario.

Did somebody say Arlberg????

Remember the old Johnny Carson swami character who held the envelope to his turban and gave the answer before opening the envelope for the question?? Well, the answer is 'Arlberg'.

For the question go here... Exclusive to Esso - Antique and Classic Snowmobile Club of Canada Forum

I am to date the only Arlberg owner that I know- I scooped one up at an auction years ago in Bowmanville On. It will soon be making it into the shop for work.. meanwhile it's been stored indoors for a number of years. It looks like this... http://webhome.idirect.com/~jduq/Arlberg.jpg It's a 1970 EWT model with the 399 Kohler and electric start. 26 HP, 350 pounds weight, Tillotson HR carb. The seat is thick and soft.... nice for a couch, but I kinda think you'd hit bottom quite a few times on a bumpy trail

I hope to finally get this thing running next year- I'm sure that it will be a head turner!

So Ken, did you end up buying that one in Alberta?

My Dad has a 1970 Arlberg quite a neat machine only manufactured exclusivly by ESSO for 2 years (i think) its a cool little single lung Kohler electric start which is bizzare for the age of her. He is in the middle of restoring it and will be a beauty once again very soon!
RascalHoudi from Bowmanville we are close to you in Port Perry just picked one of these babies up in the spring from a friend whos grandmother used to own it! Would you be going to the Antique Snowmobile show in blackstock October 28/ 2012???? If so my father would love to see yours and learn more about them!!!

A dear friend just sent me this forum. My name is Mossop. I am the daughter of Doug Mossop, owner of Arlberg. He died shortly after bringing out the Arlberg 40. I have been looking for these machines for years. If anyone knows of them I would so love a reply. He and his father owned the company first dealt in fishing tackle. my father then brought the skis into the company and then the snowmobiles. I would love to hear what happened to the machines. Very advanced for their time. Thank you Paula
