What was your first sled? The one you had fun on all of the time when you were a kid? I am a teenager and I got a 1979 Jag 3000 when I was 10 and I still ride it to this day.
A 78 Arctic Cat El tigre 5000 F/A. I took one ride on a newer one and never looked back. That thing was nothin but speed and BACKPAINS.Great runner though. I loved it when I got it.
Cool, actually I forgot my first sled wasnt a Jag it was a 1974 El Tigre 340. My dad had it for 20 years. I drove it for about a 2 weeks and one day when i was in school my dad sold the el tigre and bought my jag. I loved that El tigre it was FAST!
I didn't have a sled when I was a kid. I was 25 when I got my first sled...
'76 Ski-Doo TNT 340e. Basket case... Ended up parting it out.
Then I got a '70 Ski-Doo Olympique 12/3 that was a basket case. I rebuilt the motor on that one and sealed the gas tank. It needs a carb cleaning right now but it'll start and idle good.
Then what else, lessee:
'72 Olympique 335, '71 Nordic, '69 Panther 380?, '80 Polaris TX-L, '80 Trail Cat, '80 Blizzard 7500, '80 Polaris Centurion, '71 Panther 303, '81 El Tigre, '86 Panther.
I think thats all of them... 6 years, 12 sleds, thats only 2 a year...
first sled was an 85 phazer, still have it, havnt rode it in a few years though since i put chunks out through the bottom of the case, i want to get that fixed but just cant come up with the money.
My first ride was a Polaris Playmate a 165cc back in 68-69. Then a pair of 75 Cats a Cheeta (with the lepord seat) and a Panther with the gas tank in the back??? I don't know is I could list them all but several El Tigre's and Jags, half a dozen or so Wild Cats as well as Enticers!
1972 340 chaparral firebird Bought it used in about 1977 when I was 16. Got it for 400 the guy who lived by me had it and couldn't stay on it when he rode LOL he kept falling off....
lol my first was a 72 colt think it was a 292ss i hit a tree took the hood off and broke the handlebar and still rode it just had the brake handle in my lap befor i got a 88 phazer kinda miss them both
I restored a 1979 Arctic Cat Jag 3000 did you end up with it 79stingman? Time frame would be about right I lived in Rochester Ny at the time. That sled was showroom gorgeous when it left. Rebuilt the suspension in my bedroom lol mom loved that.
Second was a 95 Puma bought for 500 at a repo auction in 97
3rd was a 95 zr700 I rode it from the trailer to the grage and then the garage to a new guys trailer lol decided I wanted a powder sled.
Then the rest that I still own but the franken panther is sold once its finished.

No, I dont think I got the Jag you restored. Mine is definently not restored! It is not in that bad of condition, If I redid the hood and belly pan it would look like new. My dad bought the jag from a dealer in Warren, MN. It was sitting outside, so the motor had ice in the crankcase, and it was locked up. It was missing a few minor parts. That jag (first jag)sat in the shop for about 1 month and then one day when I was in school my dad sold my El Tigre(I still drove it at the time) and bought a jag that ran,(second Jag) but after about a month of driving it we put pistons and rings in it because it would shut off if you drove it for a while and it was hard to start when it was warm. When we did that, I put the motor out of the second Jag Into the first jag and switched all of the parts that the first jag needed(we made one out of two). Plus the first jag had a rubber track(the second didnt) and a better condition hood, belly pan, and seat. That is the story of how I got my Jag.
I'd like to have a freeair Jag but it seems like most of them have been beaten absolutely to death. I guess they got relegated to be kids sleds and trashed... I know where theres a nice fan cooled one but the guy doesn't want to sell...
I think fan cooled Jags are better because you dont have to mix gas and you dont have to drive fast to cool them. My brother has a 75 Polaris Colt. It is free air. It goes faster than my Jag but who cares?

I was ten years old when I first started driving a snowmobile, which was '73 Elan twin....those things can go anywhere. And now I'm doing a moto-ski mirage resto.
