VIN number to get year/make/model

Hi guys,
I recently pick up what seems to be a 1980 Polaris TXL 340 L/C.
Mfg Date, Jan.11/79
The book says this sled should be running the 336 l/c motor.
but mine has the 333 l/c which would make it a TX? so maybe my hood is different?
i was wondering if there is a site out there, or a catalogue that you can look up the year make and model of a sled by just having the VIN number?
Or if there are any vintage polaris guys out there that know alot about the old ones, let me know, its the only polaris ive ever had.
Thanks

the TX sleds were free air cooled, not liquid cooled.
the TX L was liquid cooled.

THe TX 340 is engine model # EC34PT-07 (in the '80s listing)
THe TXL 340 is engine model #EC34PL-02
You will find these numbers on the jug base behind the clutch.

A friend of mine has the TXL 340 Indy.
Is this what you have?

yeah, its a 340 txl indy, i just thought that the hood might have been replaced. but i think the 333, and 336 are the same motor, just a .001 bore difference. and polaris only made 1 340 liquid in those sleds. so its just a std bore 340 which is was i ordered rings for. i will double check those #'s though. thanks RJ for the information!
