Wanting to get a old SRX to restore.

Iv always liked the late 70s early 80s SRX's. Do these sleds still go for alot. I would really like to get one to restore and have some fun with. I really like i think its a 1980 that was all black and gold. just looking for some info on them.

as far as srx's go, the most sought after models were the 76 and 77 440 srx. they were the fastest. the 80 was the last year for the leaf springed srx. i didn't like the butterfly carbs that came on the 1980 model. the 1980 was also the slowest 440 srx at 82 hp. the bulkhead/crossmember rear suspension and skis were steel for the 1980. the bulkhead/crossmember rear suspension and skis for the 76/77 srx was 100% aluminum. the 76 440 was 90 hp, the 77 440 was 96 hp. the 78 was 84 hp.
they were all fast sleds for their time!

Hey,
We have an 81 SRX 440 with a blown clutch side piston in the barn. I had bought this at auction 2-years ago and already rebuilt once. Sled is cool lookin but motor does not live long. Seems to be common problem with the 81's. We have no desire to fix again!

Problably work out sweat deal!

I am over by Kalamazoo. I have to check with a friend- the last one to work on this owns it, or the last one to buy parts to fix it!

SS,

Look here------> http://photos.yahoo.com/david49093

The sled has been stored in a barn since I bought it two years ago. I had it running once and the piston burnt right at the exhaust port. I sold the sled to buddy, he bought a piston and ring(s) from Dennis Kirk and we re-built. It ran for a day and burnt the piston in same place.

Not sure if it was us or what on the problem??? I found in a sled magazine that this year sled was plauged with engine problems.

this has another hood and original cover, the cover is in bad shape. The sled is in decent condition overall-just dirty from storage. There are some springs and clips missing here and there as this was raided for parts along the way. All the major stuff is there though. All gauges and idiot lights, headlight, tail light did work last time this was running. I had to replace the comet clutch shortly after purchase and I also bought a recoil assembly (new).

My buddy is looking to get $400 for everything.

I love the looks of this sled, tired of fixing!

it almost sounds to me like it has a bad crank seal.
the 81 srx was plagged with motor problems, as well as clutching problems. too bad cause they sure look cool.

yah, thats what I was thinking too.
Me and a buddy took a couple of sleds (including this one) to the Bronson MI auction yesterday and we got $325 for the SRX not running.

Thankfully someone else thought it was cool 2
