Great Lakes Snowmobile
Just wanted to let everyone know about my experience. Tried saving A 100 bucks buying A "good used" crank for my Indy. I paid this guy $200 for it...and it ran for 90 seconds before burning the rusty bearing. He wants me to spend another $65 to ship it back! Obviously his parts are stored in A shed...or maybe just on the floor! BAD NEWS!!

(I am in no way affiliated with Great Lakes Snowmobile)
1. You paid too much.
2. What did you expect from rusty bearings?? With the $100 you saved, I'd think you could afford new ones!
3. He already shipped the crankshaft to you. There was nothing wrong with it; why should he have to pay to ship it back when you decide you don't want it?
4. Obviously his parts are USED! Where is he supposed to keep them?? A shed or floor is a perfectly fine place to store parts, as long as it is dry and reasonably clean.
I don't understand how you can have anything against Great Lakes Snowmobile. They sold you an used part, and you didn't perform proper maintanence by servicing it before installation. It's not his fault that you are a cheapskate and poor mechanic.
(End of anti rant)

You really should have gotten a complete bottom end for that! I personally wont even ship a crank bare! Did you listen to the bearings before installing? If it burned up that quick, it would have sounded dry and would have even felt sticky?

My job was to pay for A "good used" crank! Their job was to inspect the part PRIOR to shipping to the customer! It's called customer service! Not sure why u think I should spend $50 to ship it back? Makes no sense to me...I would make danged sure I was sending A good part in the first place...SITUATION AVOIDED!
Lesson learned...DON'T BUY from this idiot!!

They are in Michigan...just outside of Detroit. I am in Windsor...Canada. I started restoring the sled in October & didn't get to assembling the engine until January. The crank sat in the box that it was shipped to me in for A couple months. It had rusted bearings...likely from sitting around in A damp environment & should have been lubed & stored as it is probably going to sit awhile. Ebay won't do anything for me because the purchase was made longer than 45 days ago = I BURN!

Let me get this straight, you didn't even open the box for two months after you got it?? Sorry but there's no way you could prove to eBay or anyone that that wasn't your own negligence.
As for the bearings, it doesn't matter if they were rusty, they were used. Bearings are expendable parts and you should've replaced them regardless. You put a crank in the motor with used bearings, (very wornout, by your own admission) and you are surprised they went out?? The problem here is not his crank, the problem is of your lack of common sense.

I agree when ever your using used parts always change out things like bearings. If nothing else it's cheap insurance.

For one don't you think your over reacting. An I your bearings were bad why not just replace them instead if wasting all that money on a new crank. And was the case good? If your bearings were bad did it mess the case? And the. You put a new part in a bad case it will fail every time.

It appears that you have FORGOT the SF rules about language, flaming other members, etc., as you continue to violate them. Bashing a business and proclaiming our stupidity in an unintelligant argument does not add to forum discussion.
