Wanted: Good running motor
Hey folks I'm just looking for a motor for a project of mine. Doesn't have to be a specific one, just a good running engine with everything included so I can set it on a bare frame and hook it up. The more horsepower the better! Not looking to spend tons of money, just need a fair priced, strong running motor. Thanks

Air cooled would be easier to work with, but I'm not sure which would work better for my application. It'll be put through heck in Illinois summertime. To be honest I'm still learning about these motors and not sure which would be better, so I'm open to anything.

liquid cooled can tolerate heat better, fan cooled will overheat easier, but either way ull have to rejet

An air cooled engine jetted fro the temps will be just fine and lighter than having a liquid cooling system added to a cart.

I'm in central Illinois, about a half hour north of Champaign-Urbana. The motor is powering a homemade creation. Its basically a large go cart with a full suspension front and rear. Started building when I was 17, now I'm 19 and just got it done. Whats the price tag on the 650 Wild Cat and the ZR600?

Well its a half hour north-east of champaign, right next to Rantoul along Route 136 if that rings any bells. Little town in the middle of nowhere called Gifford. Where in northern IL are you located?
The $500 sounds right in my price range. What details can you give me on the 650?

I80 and I39! The 650 wild cat motor liquid, twin pipe, twin carb!
The SRV540 fan might be more than enough for what you want! It's like 75hp! The 650 is about 112!

Oh I'm sure the 540 would be enough, but I'd like to go bigger for $100 extra. How many miles are on the 650? Any idea what the compression is? Is it a good, strong running motor?
I'd be interested in coming up and taking a look here soon. The 12hp motor on it now is pretty sluggish and it'd be nice to get a new motor on there.

Compression on both is good! I'd stay with the fan! Alot easier to retrofit! The extra HP you likely wouldn't notice! From 12hp to 75 is a big jump!

Realistically 75 would be plenty. How many miles are on the 540? Ever been rebuilt?

The plans for the project are up in the air right now. I'm lookin for a 70's 440 now. The plan is to make one of the most insane creations by taking two snowmobile tracks and putting a motor on each one. To turn it I'll just throttle up or down one engine. I've already found two snowmobiles that are similar, but only one engine works. So I just need something comparable to the performance of a 440 from an early 70's sled. Anyone know where I can find a good one?
