I'm from Ontario and I have taken a lot of vacation trips in Quebec , whether snowmobiling or motorcycling. For the most part I have found the people a lot friendlier in general than most places in Canada. It's too bad but no matter where you go you are bound to find a few a**holes who give a bad rep. to the rest.

Unfortunately there are different rules and regulations in different provinces and states, tourism boards as well as local clubs remind you to check and understand these conditions before you ride in the areas for a trouble free experiance. There is a bitter taste in your mouth and you need to vent, understandable, but there is no need to say that its blood money that they took. It's no different than when we went to Loudon, New Hampsire for a superbike race and someone in our group got a ticket for not wearing eye protection while riding(no helmet law)but you have to wear eye protection,go figure. But we didn't turn around and start bashing the Police force or the state,we chalked it up as a stupid mistake on our part because we didn't read the laws in that state. So I suggest to everybuddy that is planning a trip outside your own country to educate yourselfs on the by-laws and traffic laws of the particular state or province your' re travelling to.Post what ever you like in any paper you feel but also post how you didn't educate yourself's on the laws of the province and the country.Do you feel because you are an American that this should not effect you,or because you are out of towners. If you are unhappy with the way you were treated, which you have every right to feel so.Stay in your own country we don't need your tourist dollars or that pompus sometimes arrogant American bravado, your country keeps acting that way you won't be acceptted anywhere.

Those Frenchies Don't like English Speaker Ya Know
If you think they don't like Americans its only the start. They Positively detest English speaking Canadians. Also their police are legendary for being dicks. Real quick to overreact and fast with the guns. I have seen that personally as I am in the profession so to speak .
If you think you have it bad try getting lost if you are a Southern American truck driver from the deep south. Something special there and they all seem to hate going back. They have some real stories to tell. Its a cultural thing which dates back to Colonial times ( among themselves) and they are still duking it out. Lots of real ****ty little cultural laws like requiring business owners to have signs in French and making sure the French writing is bigger if bilingual. Theres no lack of petty enforcement and big fines for these dumb laws either. Many English speaking Canadians bring their kids to NY and pay $$$$ tuition so they don't have to go to french schools if they can afford it. One has to remember that they damned near had a bit of a civil war up there in 1970, martial law got declared briefly and they had a nasty spate of home grown terrorism with at least one political assasanation that I remember. Real ugly stuff that still smolders on with vote referendums for splitting off from Canada every 10 years or so. One of these days they are going to get it too as the votes are darned close.
One thing I can tell you is that they do have a mega theft problem in Quebec and that I see lots of people at the border returning with everything ripped off. Its mostly professionals from the look of it. I do talk to lots of snowmobilers returning from Quebec and they all seem to have a good time. I think lots of it is more the availability of deep snow and nice trails as compared to NY's piss poor trail systems. When it comes to huniting and fishing trips everyone gives them glowing reviews, just do your homework.

everywhere i've been, they like americans. or maybe it's because we're spending big $ on their gas/food.
you dont see any trail police in Quebec though. i only saw one normal cop when i was going through Temmiscimming (sp) however on the news up there, a guy was walking away from a cop with a knife and the cop shot him.
a lot of placea either have gated off areas or heated garages for sleds to prevent theft though. still, it happens a lot.
great trails, i must say.
