hehehe, my snowmobile map

check this baby out:

My GPS recorded my 'trail' going from my house in New Hartford, New York to The Lanterns, in Clayville, New York. Google Maps says it's 7.2 miles by road, so I can't imagine how many miles it is by snowmobile.

I wonder if they neighborhood likes your sled? I do the same thing where i live, i ride through any1s and every1s property.
I have a loop that is 20 miles and a bigger loop that goes through 3 towns that is 140ish miles. It took me all summer from 8am-11am each day on my quad to make it. It started to suck when i got so far from my house it would take me 5 hours to get thoere, but half the fun was riding out there and working for an hur(i got thirsty after i ran out of water). I ended up just camping over night and towing a trailer of food and gas.

Now this trail is fairly popular, almost every1 whos land its on rides it in the winter on sleds. only a handful ride dirtbikes/atvs on it in the nonwinter months. very fun trails, the long loop is mostly old logging roads adn power lines but the short trail had a lot of very tight sections.

Since this is private property, we(all the land owners) try to keep the drunks off this trail and try to keep the decibals below 97 or we will kick them out. It doesnt work very well cuz no 1 is scard of a 16yo kid

I need a gps so i can make one of these and print out maps so people dont get lost in a fresh snowfall

I didn't establish this trail myself; I'm pretty sure it's been around for a while. A lot of the trail is cutting right through people's backyards so there are lots of little signs stuck into the ground warning riders that if they misbehave, we will lose the trails i.e. "loud pipes lose trails" and "stay on the trails or stay home" type stuff.

We actually just did that for the club thisyear. All the maps will have GPS coordinates, topographical features, etc. They will be printed in time for next year. We did it on 4-wheelers last fall and this spring.

They started doing something like that south of me. They have numbers posted along the trail which coincide with GPS cordinanances. It's for if there's an emergency. Really good idea.

In NY all new trails that are funded must be logged by gps. eventually you will be able to find the points on the signs.

Yeah, but it sucks! I asked about making the GPS data public, and was told that wasn't going to happen. It would be nice to load the data into your own GPS, and be able to follow the trail that way... but NY isn't sharing the data.

Just using it to draw up maps - and more importantly, to figure mileage for paying out trail fund money.

Here's my map...

I use a Garmin Legend, with Garmin MapSource software on the PC.

Trail runs from my house, to a friend's house, 21 miles of trail. Mostly through farmland.

The dots at the bottom (not in yellow) are backyard trails.
