French River Run '09

Well, another great experience for this years run on the French, Ontario. Started off a little rough. Blew the muffler on the way up. Sounded cool though. Had trouble gettin' water to the cottage. Ended up growin' a new pump system. Drawin' off the river and now realize I gotta get the well set up to work in the winter. Temp swings were unreal. Close to 40 deg F during the day and 0 deg F at night. Slush to frozen ruts. Towards the end there we started seeing little open patches of water. Rolled my sled right off the bat. Patched the windshield and good to go. Wife customized her sled good. Missed the snow pack and went out on the glare ice. Track swung out, left ski hooked which produced a nice hi-side. Spit her off the sled and slapped the ice upside down. Luckily she landed on her rump and slid about 150 ft to shore and NOT towards open water. Sleds missing most accessories above the console. She's given up on having mirrors. Went up to Algonqin Ski-doo in Lively and picked up the upgrade '06 windshield kit and took a pipe to the handle bars to straighten them out. Hand warmers are on all the time now since the controls got smashed. No short though! Rest of the week went well. I believe that was enough excitement for one trip, eh?

Hey CW,
We get up there 'bout a half a dozen times a year. May Two Four(well actually the 18th) is next up. If you know where to look there's fish. I'm still lookin'..... Can't seem to stay awake long enough. Sometimes there's a fish at the end of the line when I come back from dreamland. We're right off the 69 by way of the 607. Everythings changin' with all the highway construction goin' on. It'll be nice n fast when it gets all done. Mighty slow goin' with all the granite blastin' they gotta' do, eh?

All I know is we live to get up there. Simco's beautiful too. Have a friend who had a place there next to the wildlife preserve. Just beautiful.......truly God's country. Just hope this economy picks up.

I used to go to Tinnerman Canoe Base on the French River every other year with the boy scouts it is truly one of the most beautiful places on the earth. We would fish for pike and drink water straight from the river. I would absoutly love to take my seld up there.

A buddy from work went to the same camp. I believe it's in the lower French closer to the Georgia Bay. Lovely all year 'round, eh?
