Maine, Can = Ticket

Got stopped by a warden on a trail just outside Carthage, Maine yesterday and was ticketed for having a can. Its not that loud, but he said it dosent matter. If its not the stock muffler, you get a ticket.

I knew they were cracking down on loud sleds, but I didn't know that cans were illegal across the board.

We didn't let it ruin the day though. 75 miles of twisty turnies. Life is GOOD!!!

Don't know for sure yet, but I think its 130 dollars. My son in law was riding my 700 and actually got the ticket. He has to call the court (somewhere?) to get the amount of the fine.

They had other riders stopped also. Seemed like they were just checking registration and mufflers. The Warden had Sean open the hood so he could look at the can.

No. I bought this thing used and have been (slowly)bringing this thing back to life. The kid I bought it from gave me the stock muffler but it had a split in it. I just got it welded up but had not got it back on the machine yet.

The price for being lazy.

You laugh "AT" my pain and misery, not in. (moron)

Look, I was just posting this to maybe help somebody else out there from getting a ticket. Guess I should just spend more time on the trails and less time on here.

Times two here. Its takes an Adult to admit to an error and move on. I appreciate you wanting to help others and being honest of the cause. That earns my respect and if you have read as much stuff as some of us have about Cans you might at least chuckle.
Thank you for honesty its refreshing.

yeah this whole thing is nonsense i think there are two different laws on exhausts in maine it can't be over 78db and it can not be moded to make the sled louder. its pretty much impossible to do anything in maine without breaking a law or two

My 650 has a moded exhaust and my old man who is a maine game warden keeps b*****n' about it but there is no way to tell if its over 78db

Actually I agree with your father. I have a tree farm and allow the local club to transit the property. Most people are thoughtful and use the trails with some consideration. However, usually on Friday and Saturday nights, there is a group of sledders with really loud exhausts that blast thru at 2 or 3 in the AM and wake everyone up. As a sledder, I want people to use the trails, however, between the noise and the trash that is thrown out I may close it next year.

I live in Northern Canada and Can=Grouchy Neighbour at 7am, but tickets are very rare. I have a Bender Racing Can on my MM700 and it's quieter then many stock machines out there IMO.....My neighbour still hates me though where I live less then 5% of trails are considered private property, and we have tonnes of trail, that helps.

It's been a law there for a while now, as well as in NH. If the sled sounds ANY different at all, they are going to check it.

In NH other than stock and they can ticket you for it (some are quieter than stock though, so go figure). Cops usually congregate out around the lakes here, if you're on trails you very rarely see them.

hahaha the cops stay on the roads here... and we only have one main road so you can go anywhere with your sled. ive never heard of anyone getting a ticket for having a sled thats too loud though . but mostly because when the cop shows up everybody runs so they dont have to pay any ticket or nothing. thats what makes people hate snowmobiles though. its people that are stupid like that that ruin it for everybody else. But it is kinda funny you have to admit. you weren't even riding your sled and you got a ticket!
