Age 15 and crossing roads with snowmobile license

Where i live it is illegal for my son who is 15 and has his snowmobile license to be on or cross any roads. I have heard if you get caught the police dont do any thing, they just check for the stuff they normally would and send you on your way.

Have any of you guys had experiences like this and they dint care or did they and you got find.

Tell me if you think they would have time and care for something like this.

Thanks,
Cole

im 16 and only have my g1 no other license and i ride my sled all over but if i get caught in another field its a $10 000 fine, plus i dont have the owner ship for my sled since im like the 4th owner so its not plated or insured so i think the fine would increase lol i just hope i dont get caught but the cops usually dont give us problems unless we are on the green way (old train way that got turned into a nature trail or w.e)

Spun222400, Thats exactly what i was thinking.

Thanks for your opinions guys.

In Michigan Sleds are legally allowed to ride on the right side on all county roadways. I knew that in Ohio though if you got pulled over for riding the roads it was almost a sure ticket because most people fund snowmobiles to be annoying and just complained, but in Michigan it isn't a problem.

Ahh, ok. Here, you don't have to have any kind of license unless you ride ON the roads the same way you would drive a car, but that's here. Wyoming is extremely easy on snowmobiles and their riders.

In illinois it's illegal but like you said chances are that if everything else is legit, you'll be fine.

TC nailed it, be honest if you get caught... just don't be f*ing around on the sled otherwise there are no breaks. Every sled I ever stopped didn't even get a ticket from me, nor a warning... just because I know how it is! I did tow them though if there was no current registration.

Here in Maine a person needs to be 10 years old to operate a snowmobile off of family land and 14 to cross a road. No licsence required at all. God i love living in Maine.

So in Wyoming you can ride a sled like its a car, on the streets and everything? Sweet I wanna do that. Where else can you do it. I think in IL you can do it.

Its not legal but smaller towns can't clear snow as fast as other places and most of the time the cop or sherrif will just tell you to go home. However, gravel county roads are fair game.

In Eastern Washington where we ride, anyone under 12 is supposed to stay off the roads. At 12 you need to have a permit that shows you attended a free safety class and be accompanied by adults. Fortunately for me, my younger ones have no interest in sledding so I don't have to worry about it. We have areas on the road where a sign states "snowmobilng is allowed" but you have to be cautious and yield to vehicles. There isn't any restrictions on road crossing that I know of up there. The Ranger rides around and stops people at random and checks for registrations but that's all unless your doing something stupid. It's pretty relaxed all in all. Cans will get you sent home, if he pulls you over and you have a can, he will do a decibel test and send you home if you don't pass. If he catches you on the trail again with the can, you could get impounded and have to pay to get your sled back and sign a statement saying you will not ride on public propery with a can on. Since were all property owners, the ranger knows us and doesn't give us too much trouble.
