yeah, past few years we've been riding mid november. last year, or maybe it was 2 years ago, we got somewhere between 18 and 24 inches on thanksgiving day. that was a cool way to burn off the turkeyy. we all went riding.

Yes, but I didn't have my sleds then. Instead, I hopped on the Deere, and cleared out the driveway with the blower.

i don't bother doing that until it is completely over with. no sense in doing the driveway 3 times with 8" each time. just hit it in the morning.

Remember... I had NO sleds at the time, I dislike football anyway, and I'm riding a tractor with a 37" blower. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Back a couple years ago when we got 47" dumped on us in one day, I was next door on both sides blowing out my neighbors' driveways. That was the most fun I could have when it was snowing... until I got my 2 Cats in February. Now I'm up to 3 Cats. They must have had kittens over the summer. Actually, I was able to pick up a nice 1980 Jag for 5 bills. It will be great for my girls to ride (so they don't go wrecking my 550). I dare say that the drive will get cleared a lot less often this coming winter!

Well they say in 2 weeks the snow will be able to stick. And we have a snow coming in a week, so either in mid nov. to late nov. we will have snow, and wisconsin i think usually gets about the same if not more snow than minnesota so i'm sure you'll have snow. Lets hope and get ready for it. yeeeeaaahhh

when you think about it, the sleds are really small compared to larger vehicles that that omit exhaust...
about the areas where we ride, hmmm i think we primarily ride on SNOW and not on the ground...so its not like we totally destroy the ground under the snow... sure when there is the first snow of the year, or the last snow, the ground could be exposed, but when you think about it, were only on it for less than a half a second (in a given location when were in motion)
oh well, its just my .02

Like PolarisINDY500 said between oil spills the suvs with all the fumes they put in the air. Sled really don't hurt the enviroment as much as some antisnowmobilers think it does. The sled companies are also doing a really good job with make the sleds more evirometally friendly. Because the new sleds don't put out that many fumes.
Also think of it this way. When the mall parking lot is full because so many people are christmas shopping. Think of all the fumes and gas and things they burnt and put into our air.
Then think of 4 sleds going down the trail.
Even things such as smoking a cirreate(can't spell) or cigar or something poullete the air when you think about it.

This Topic has went from night riding to pollution. Wow that is a big change. LOL

It really depends on the sled and what has been done to it because the older sleds pollute more then the new sleds.
Also I don't think that snowmobiling is one of the worst sports for the enviroment that is me i don't know how other people feel that is just my opioin.

Maybe... the pollution only happens with night riding...

hahaha! you know, one of the arguments i heard against snowmobiles in Yellowstone was " all the animals have to get off the trails, and walk through deep snow". well, wouldnt the snow be deep where the trails are too, if we didnt groom them and ride on them?
oh, and i like ridng at night, no matter how much more pollution it does than in the day!!!

Keep in mind. When you ride on a freshly groomed trail it needs an hour or so to "set up". Try to accelerate and brake smoothly. This will keep the trail smooth for a longer time.

I thought this tread was about riding at night??
Yes I love to ride at night. I think it cool how its pitch black then you finally see lights in the distance and know you are not alone.

you'll soon find that when a thread is getting kind of old, it veers off topic. then, a new user wil state his/her opinion, and get it back on topic. then people will re-state what they think.
i like night riding too, especially on local trails. my favorite ride is probably the night run up to the resteraunt and back. good ride... good dinner... what more do you need? oh, and there are no houses on the way; all the riding is done in the very back of a huge lot of property, or in the woods.

I like night riding too especially when it is a cool night with no wind, and the trails are freshly groomed and you are the first to ride them!!
