its gotta be doin somethin to the environment, but people do too much cryin about it. by the way some people sound, you'd think we were aiming for animals. they make it soudnd a lot worse than it is.

all the trees i see along the trail look healthy...oh and then you got the people who think we scare the animals off the trails, so they have to walk through deep snow. wouldnt the snow on the trails be deep too if there werent groomers???

Everything that people do has some kind of effect on the environment. The question is how much of an effect does it have and do we stop doing it or continue on? This doesn't just include snowmobiles. Should we stop cutting trees? Should we stop burning fossil fuels? Should we stop building dams and roads? I could go on and on. I'm sure that if you stopped doing any of these things, there might be some hkind of improvement in the environment. Are we going to stop doing them though? Absolutely not! The positive aspects of all of these actions far outweigh the negatives. Snowmobiling provides millions if not billions of dollars to the economies of the northern US and Canada. Many of these communities would cease to exist if it were not for snowmobiling. Don't you think that the positives outweigh the negatives. Snowmobiles are getting cleaner all of the time. Another thing to remember is that trees actually breath carbon and storeit, then they exhale oxygen. I think that your fears about the environment are unfounded.

Okay, I happen to like NASCAR racing...
Now you hit a nerve!

Alright, what's your question? You went from "worst sport for the environment" to sport that "pollutes" worst. Which is it? I would think that any dirt bike or ATV is far worse for the environment than a snowmobile could ever be.

BTW, since you're feeling so bad about running your snowmobiles and totally ruining the environment for your kids and mine... you can always give those machines away so you won't feel so guilty. I'd guess any number of folks here would take them off your hands...

ridng a snowmobile and complaining about the damage they do is like owning a company that tests their products on animals and being a member of PETA.

PETA= People Eatign Tasty Animals. really? no.

Just a thought
I have no problem riding my snowmobile, and I'll be the first to admit that person for person, I probably do a lot more air/water pollution that a lot of people. Not from being an idiot and tossing things out the window or being too lazy to find a garbage can, but from running engines (SUVs, sleds, go-kart, boat)

I like NASCAR too, I have a go-kart I race too (might be getting into car racing soon)

You guys act like sledding doesn't pollute the environment, the fact is IT DOES, even if very little compared to factories/cars.

oh i know it pollutes the environment, but peole do too much complaining about snowmobiling. and im not sure, are we aloud to ride in yellowstone?

if that quote started this arguement, it shouldnt've because you never said you were against it (or complaining for that matter). sorry if you thought my comments were toward you, they were just my opinion on snowmobiles and pollution.

After seeing that you are only 16 I can understand why you are so misguided about the environment. I'm sure you are told all of the time in school about how bad everything that we do is bad for the environment. You can't help that you are brainwashed. Hopefully in a few years you will grow up and learn to think for yourself, not just repeat things that you are told at school.

By the way, what is a 16 year old doing with a new explorer?
Spoiled kid, parents with too much money?

some might call me spoiled, you decide, here's my situation:

1. car is a 2004 explorer XLT V8
2. I drive the car one day a week to school (other days parent's drive me and take car back home)
3. I get the car basically whatever nights I want (with generally an 11pm curfew )
4. I pay for the (secondary) insurance on it ($1600/year)
5. Parents pay for gas
6. I pay for everything I do with the car (eg. movies/food/etc.)

and......I'm 17 in a month and a bit

...used to use small pebbles, on the ground, when I was in school. That was back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

BTW, what's a "calculator"???

Hey, be kind!!! I'm not even 45 (yet). No discounts at that age! Just college bills for my kids.

Let's see: Pay their college bill, or get a new sled??? College bill, new sled... college bill, new sled... college bill, new sled... ???

Actually, I'm not as much in the stone age as I let on. I do love technology, especially teeny-tiny computers. I've been working on the Palm platform almost as long as Palm handhelds have been around. I started with a Palm Pro in the 90's, then a Palm III, Palm IIIxe, Sony SJ20, and today I tote a Sony TJ35. It's not the highest end PDA, (remember the college bills?) but I get by with it just fine. Can't imagine what I would have done with one of these in high school... With an endless assortment of applications, and the power of a 200MHz processor... oh, boy! Could have whipped through those Trig problems!!!

Anyway, glad to hear you pay attention to the substitute... (she must be Hot!)

C'mon, can't you give us a little more? How about a quick summary of the article? I'm a die-hard 2-stroker, wouldn't change unless I had to (i.e. 2-strokes become extinct). So what's the *real* beef against them? Are manufacturers just trying to get us to buy new equipment, or are the tree-huggers 3 nuggets short of a Happy Meal (like usual) and don't have their facts straight? What's up???

Apparently carburated 2-strokes burn rich until the temperature lowers to a point for the proper mixture. Below this temp they run lean. When they run rich they are emitting lots of unburned hydrocarbons(CO, unburned fuel, etc). This is why you smell gasoline when you fire up your cold sled. DFI and SDI reduce this by maintaining the proper mix thru all temps.
