Track Suggestions for SE Wisconsin Trails

Hello, This is my 3rd year riding, but I only ride the local trails here in South/East Wisconsin.. They are nothing fancy, but sometimes we get some decent snow.

Anyways, I am looking at buying a different sled this season, I found an 2001 MXZ800, with a 144" track with 2" paddles on it.

Is that something I should get for the regular groomed trails and sometimes poor trails (snow blows away) or the many roads I have to cross in this area?

Or that intended only for an area with more snow and going off trail?

I don't want to spend the money on this sled if I am just going to destroy the track and not use it what it is intended for.. Or are those ok to use around here?

Just looking for your opinions, I'm still new to this!

Thanks!

You dont want to go any taller than a 1" lug. The snow conditions around here can be marginal most of the time, so you definetly dont want tall lugs.
If you try to run lugs 1.25" or taller around here, you will burn up your hyfax in no time.

Thanks! That info is exactly what I was looking for. I doubt I will travel that much out of this area, so I'll look for something small or stock.

Thanks!!

Do you live on the lake? I have friends on south shore drive. That is a nice lake. Have you ever sledded on it? Where do you ride around there? I am a little north of you I sled in whitewater quite a bit.

You know I really like lake riding myself. You can open it wide up. Is there trails right by the lake? My other friend lives right by Millies. Once the lake freezes and we get snow we are going there. That would be great if there were trails close also.

if we get another winter like last years, a paddle track would almost be perfect! but not on trails though, thats for sure.

at most I would use 1", anything more than that and you are going to bending over the lugs and trashing the track.
