Trail Permit Fee in Michigan
it proposed by the Michigan Snowmobile Advisory Committee that they be a two tier permit fee system in Michigan next year. THe proposed cost is $35.00 if the permit is purchased before November 14th and $50.00 if purchased after November 14th.
This is from the SAC minutes in December 2007:
Mr. Thomas moved to increase trail permit fees for the 2008-09
snowmobile season to $50.00. If the permit is purchased before
November 15, 2008 it would be discounted to $ 35.00; seconded by
Mr. Nelson.
VOTE: Ayes: Manson, Nelson, Thomas, Olson, Lucas, Duke
Nays: None
Motion to increase snowmobile permit fees passed.
I support the Increase to $35.00. I think that is reasonable. Permits can be purchased online from the MSA. Michigan Snowmobile Association
Please pass the word to save everyone some money next season.

Trail Permit Fee in Michigan. I think it should be a least $100 to help pay the people who groom the trails

$100 is a little much, but the $35 / $50 plan is not terrible as long as the money goes where it supposed to.

So knowing that the economy in MI is terrible, you expected the trail permit fees to stay the same?? Their propesed increase in not horrible if you get the permit before the deadline. Snowmobiling is an expensive sport there is no doubt about that.

Face it, EVERYTHING is going up in price. Gas is now at $3.30 a gallon and rising! I am waiting for the day my Chief or Lt. says to stop patrolling and only respond when neccessary to save money in gas. It will happen, when is the question!

They'll put you out on a bicycle first before you are ever told to stop patrolling.

A fee hike may be in order IF the DNR could justify it.......seems they have 2 sets of books; one to cry about saying there is no more money & the real ones which suddenly make $4M appear when they get trapped in a corner. WTF is up with that???

I don't have a problem paying the fee, Just would like to see the money going to what it's collected for.
Now about the fee discounted before the Nov 15th, That is getting normal all around.
WE have to buy city stickers and have to pay more AFTER a set date.
I mean if you KNOW your going to be using the trail, and you know there is a dead line for the discounted price why not just get it before?
The economy is down all over the US, Chicago gas prices are 3.59 a gal for Reg
They will keep taking and taking, and we will just have to keep paying and paying.
What can we do?

We always get ours at the snow show in late August so it won't be an issue.

We drive 12 Hrs to Michigan to ride the trails there for $25. To raise it to $35 - $50 would be fair. IF it is justified, like stated ^^^^^. If it changes to $100. It will change a lot of people minds in my area to go to MI.
NY $100 +$40 more to ride in Old Forge
Canada $130
If gas keeps going up ,I,m not going ANYWHERE next year.
