Post Illegal??

I was reading an article the other day in my michigan snowmobile mag that stated specifically that cans are now illegal on the trails of michigan and that they are in full force trying to enforce this? I am an avid trail rider and support my local trails, I do not have a can on my sled but was wondering if anybody else read the article or knows anything about this?

I asked that before, so I also would like to know. It prolly depends on how loud it is.

I talked with a few guys in Waters that said the same thing. 2 of the guys had actually opened up their stock cans, removed the guts, packed it with muffler packing and welded them back together.

I just found this on the Michigan snowmobile regulations on FISHWEB.
Noise: Each snowmobile manufactured after July 1, 1977, shall be equipped with a muffler that does not exceed 78 decibels of sound pressure at 50 feet as measured by the 1974 SAEJ-192a.

^ That's stupid not to spend the $25 or so on a trail permit. The fine will most likely be over $100 if you are caught without one.

It doesn't matter how many DNR you see. Those nice smooth groomed trails your riding are paid for with that trail pass money. Don't forget that.
