Any one know if they have a law in NY like that? here we have county sheriffs on sleds light sirens the hole 9, and cars backing them up at road crossings. I know ppl that have been hit with radar from a sled cop and ticked for speeding. In NY you join a club and save i think half on your reg. for you sled. Think the state cops might have sleds out to but not sure.

In NY, it is not legal to modify the exhaust on a sled except for the express purpose of racing.
Trail legal sleds must be stock.

Rant

The loud pipe law is in effect this season…. So to all you retards and your “ I’ve got loud pipes and I just run from the cops”.. I hope you come to the UP.. I hope you get pulled over by the DNR, Sheriff Dpt, or Local police. (All of them have sleds). And I hope you get a ticket…. And if you want to run from them that’s fine.. They’ll chase you.. Do you really think they are going to have 440 fans? They get fast sleds so they can chase down the thirty or so tards a year that try to run from them.. Run by all means.. I swear the idiots who have that kind of mentality about snowmobiling are my favorite.. There the ones that come up here and hit trees and die, driven from bar to bar.. The trails opened on the 1st and we already had a tard who cracked his head open.. so come to the UP.. Bring your loud sled and your childish attitude… there’s a reason we call you guys terrorists not tourists.. Come wreck it for everyone else…

Rant over
JT

EDIT: And I hope your sled breaks down up here too.. A lot of shops wont fix or sell parts to piped sleds.. Cuz loud sleds close trails..

lol....

im sorry for flipping out.. My areas economy is based mostly off the winter snowmobiling season... and a lot of people around here depend on it…. And our areas been fighting for years to get and keep trails... So you can see why I take the loud pipe thing to heart… You can make fast sleds without loud pipes these days.. they may have worked in the past but they are no longer needed.. theres no logical reason for them anymore..

I agree maybe not so vehemently.I do follow that those who break the law and get caught should be punished well. I'm not a fan of the loud sleds and would rather they not do it.

Do you really think they just pluck guys out of patrol cars and stick them on sleds? I know quite a few NYS Park Police, I ride with them frequently, and they're definitely not scared of their sleds. I'm pretty sure it's the same anywhere there's sled cops.

I really can't believe how stupid some people are.

to be honest - i wish people wouldn't ride in the UP. I like the peace and quiet on the trails. only running across a dozen or so people a day. Keep the yay-hoos down in gaylord/grayling.

the officer out of Paradise MI is a used car salesman in the summer, sled office in the winter - no joke.

I agree...Gaylord is nuts sometimes. If/when I ride there, I very seldom go North of Waters, we usually stay SE and ride in Lovells, Lewiston area. My buddy's cabin backs up to 15K acres of state land...hills, powder fields, lakes for drags, it's got everything we need and no retards.

BTW, nice to see you back PI500!!!!!!!!!

If your going to ride.. Read the rules!!!! DNR - Michigan Snowmobile Regulations....

Old law...Noise: Each snowmobile manufactured after July 1, 1977, shall be equipped with a muffler that does not exceed 78 decibels of sound pressure at 50 feet as measured by the 1974 SAEJ-192a.

New law...Jan. 2004 SAE J2567 stationary test overview: The sound meter microphone is placed 4 feet above the ground, inline with the exhaust outlet/center point of multiple exhaust outlets, on the side of the snowmobile toward which the exhaust is directed, 4 meters distance from the snowmobile longitudinal centerline. The operator holds the brake during the test, starts and runs the engine up to normal operating temperature, then slowly opens the throttle until a steady 3,750 to 4,000 rpm is achieved for not less than 4 seconds. The test is immediately repeated and the two readings averaged. Michigan's quieter snowmobiles will please some Michigan Outdoors - MLive.com
