homemade trail boggan plans

Does anyone have or know of plans for a homemade trail boggan? Nothing elaborate, just to haul a grub box or gas.

did you use screws? glue? nails? bolts? I'm kinda undecided what would hold up the best. It's going to flex no matter what, right? Or do I want to build it to be absolutely rigid?

yeah i used screws, there the easiest and probably the strongest.mine still flexed a little bit but just because i threw it together quick.mine almost look like a dog sled,i made a handle on the back and some foot grips so another person can ride behind it also.

I have about 6 old cross country and downhill skis that i was going to make one out of too. How wide did you make the base, and how long were the skis? also, i think the handle and steps are a great idea. How did you fabricate the handle? metal? and the steps were what?

well,i made it out of some old 2x4's so i dont remember how wide it was but the skiis were probly about 4-5 ft long,i just used more wood for a handle, the little "foot grips" were just the back of the skiis sticking out and i mounted some random pieces of plastic on it. heres a drawing similar of what it looked like:

awesome... i guess if i don't get it right the first time i can do it again since i got so many skis for that purpose. my neighbor had them in the trash so i thought they would work well for this. Do you put the screws into the bottom of the ski? or what?

yes screw into the botton of the ski upwards to attach the wood.you can either buy a hitch or just tie a rope to the bumper of the snowmobile.for the sled i just used this piece of plastic that was in a "C" shape and bolted it onto it.

I was just working on it this afternoon and its going great. The only thing is, its going to be a bumpy ride. Also, hopefully its not too thin, I made it shoulder width and then a couple inches wider.

Don't forget to put in some eyelets or eyebolts to attach bungies or tie downs, you don't want to loose stuff along the way? Check out the ice fishermen this winter, I've seen some very elaborate set ups!

Saw a ice fisherman around here once, made one out of a couple of old sled skis, and a flat board, under it, he mounted old leaf springs to the skis, with weight on it, it was pretty smooth over the ice..
