New Member, Same Old Question...
Hello everyone. New to the forum, but been riding for more than 10 years. Currently I have an older SkiDoo Formula III....I'm now seriously in the market for a new sled...and i basically want the best that money can buy, since i probably won't buy another one for 10 more years and i have the cash...however every dealer i talk to tries to sell me what they have on the floor of the dealership....so let me ask you....cost aside, what is the best trail sled available....anyone, anyone??....thanks in advance for your responses...

I'd go with a Crossfire 700. Great for both trails and powder!!Or I'd want to go with the new F8. The only thing about the new F8s is they are a brand new design. Not sure of what bugs Cat will have to work out? But the new rear slide suspension I heard is unbelievable.

The T660 would be a good choice. I know a husband and wife who are both retired and have the T660's who put on nearly 5000 miles a year and just love their sleds.

It's the T660 that has the heated seat and the two up has heated passenger grips too.

What kind of trail sled do you want? Touring or performance? Are you riding by yourself or two-up? Do you have any brand preference? There are tons of good trail sleds out there all suited for different styles. The more information we have the better advice we can give.
Ski-doo GSX is a great touring sled, with an SDI motor it will have decent power and amazing fuel economy (You'll thank ski-doo for the SDI on longer rides). T660 is also a great sled, it's got a lot of cool accessories.
If you're riding by yourself and want a little more of an edge, look into an mxz (or mach z if you feel like tearing the fabrics of space and time), or an F series arctic cat.

depends on your riding style. if u like to go fast sometimes and just cruise others, depending on who your riding with you could never go wrong with any crossfire. you will never know the longer track is back there and that longer track makes the ride even more exceptional.
they're a blast in the deep snow, lite and handle great.
i would make sure it had the ripsaw track though

if you're looking for a sled for yourself, i would suggest the mxz, f8, phazer, or the dragon. imo these are all good sleds for trail riding.
last season, one of the last issues of snowgoer had a whole article on the new 08's. they tested trail sleds, and performacne. i suggest you look into this issue becauae they do a side by side comparison of every manufactuer's best trail rated sleds. i'm pretty sure i have this issue at home and, if interested i can possibly scan it and email to you.

Get a Rev! Rev Renegade has 136" track and they rock! However, the Cat Crossfires are really cool as well and they have the longer track as well. I have not ridden the Cat's but I have heard alot of good stuff about them. It really depends on what brand of sled you are into, because all the manufacturers are making some fantastic new machines. The other thing I would suggest is to stay clear of anything that is totally new this year, as with anything else there are gonna be some things that need to get worked out. And the 2nd year of that thing will be killer! Yamaha has got some great 4strokes that will last along time. They are gonna be a little heavier but if you are staying on groomed trails that might not be an issue for you. If it's value you want I think most manufacturers are trying to target that niche as well, Ski-doo 500SS, Polaris Shift, Yamaha Phaser, etc.. I agree with Indy Polaris 500 guy check the snow mags that are comparing all '08s and then do some dealer visits or snowmobile shows so that you can sit, lean, jump, pull, lift and tug on these things. Open them up check the storage options and find something that you really dig. Do not be to swayed by the dangeling carrot trick "If you by this machine today we can give ya this! Wha la balla bing". You can always get the other stuff later if ya want it. Find "your" sled! Good luck to ya! What ever ya end up with I am sure you will enjoy it alot! Good Riding and be safe!

If I was going to get a new trail sled this year I would probably get the Ski-Doo MXZ TNT. It's got a 600cc liquid cooled engine, but the big thing is it's the first ever liquid cooled production sled to ever break the 400 pound barrier. However just barely at a dry weight of 399 pounds.

For me the trail sled of choice would be the new Yamaha Phazer. Light, agile, excellent on fuel and not bad off trail either with 80 HP. So I've read. I'm not like all these other guys who have ridden every sled out there.
Your best bet is to test drive every single sled that interests you and decide for yourself. What you want out of a sled is like what you want out of a vehicle. It' very subjective. Everyone's different.
