New to snowmobiling - sled advice for MN trails

Hello,

Fairly new to sleds - only been on a few, and theyve all been Arctic Cats. While i've never had any problems, I was just curious if people had any brands i could check out

Basically - looking for a solid sled thats still nimble enough to pick my way through trails. Ac's are fine, but the few ive ridden can give a tippy feel because the ski's will lift off in the front on turns.

I've heard polaris are tanks as far as feeling that youre rooted to the ground, but how is the handling.

Looking for something preferably big enough to squeeze my wife on in a pinch if she wants to go for a ride, but not a dedicated 2 up.

Im 6' - 240. Looking to hopefully rent a few different brands of sleds this year to test them out - any suggestions?

How old were the sleds you rode? They have come a LONG way in the last couple of years! THe Ski Doo REV chassis is absolutely amazing. You sit like a motorcycly on it, no more slouching over. The Cats are very stable dependable sleds now, and Yamaha has completely designed the sled line. You'll need to see what rental places offer and try ALL brands if possible before you buy.

I don't mean to preach the DOO. But you can buy a removable 1+1 seat attachment so you can ride 2 up and than toss the seat when you blaze the trails solo.

whats a good reliable doo sled (and agerange) to look at?

Ive been looking for an engine about 500-600cc's. I dont need amazing top end, just enough to kick my fat butt around when needed

state trails around MN - i only have ridden on borrowed sleds.

MX/offroad person, very new to snowmobiling. I would personally prefer something very nimble. But thats hard to come by out of a sled it seems?

Almost debating the rev's, but my wife keeps reminding me i hate riding 45degree ditches, and that i would probably hate doing those on the rev even more

If you are looking for "nimble" you will want a 1up sled. THe 2up are more of a touring/cruiser and are not particularly nimble. The "trail performance" catagory is whatr you seem to be looking for. check the manufacturers web sites and that will give you a better idea of what you want.

The Ski Doo GSX is a touring sled, but has a sport sled engine in it. You can get the 1/2 seat on it also. And it will tear up the trails pretty nicely!

man there's a lot of "Doo-Doo" goin on in here. So I'm gonna throw a plug in for the polaris IQ 600. Nice trail sled. 125hp out of a 600 is a nice number. I don't know about the 1/2 seats for it but 2up riding SUCKS so if at all possible avoid it. And if you're gonna buy from a dealer make them throw in a set of heavier springs to close the deal. Most sleds are set up for around 180lb rider.
