too anxious

Around here it seems like people get way too anxious to get out on the trails during a storm. I just went by the local trail and it looks as though it has been ridden on since the snow started. Even with a good storm like we're now getting, if there is no existing base then a foot and a half of snowfall is gonna be gone from the trail in a day or two (if that). I understand the itch to get out and ride, but I just wish everyone would let the groomers get out there and get a base established before the trail gets ridden. Otherwise the length our local riding season can be counted in hours.

Sure enough, went by the rail beds today and you'd be better off riding a dirt bike down them than a sled...

It's everywhere, man. The trails are beat beacuse people are tired of waiting. It's going to be in the 40's by the weekend, so folks are saying the hell with it.

Thats what happened last good snowfall we got, trails got so bad I couldn't make it up a hill to get back home. wound up taking the shoulder of the nearest road and burned a hole through my skiis. I posted pics of them on here, then bought new skis and imeadiatly studded my track. Everybody is itching for snow now.

That is ridiculous that they couldn't wait just a little longer. I can understand the urge of wanting to go, but still...

THis is exactly how an area club lost a vital part of a Primary Corridor Trail.

Around here this year we only had the trails open for four days, getting worse by the year I think, anyways, people aren't too bad so far. We usually like to go out and groom through everything first and then make a desicion to open them. If sleds are on the trails before we open them and a cop sees this they get a ticket. We have a phone # to call on our maps for trail conditions and people will call it to see if they are open/closed,works very good, people have followed it well or as good as we can ask for. Just wish the snow would stay longer,we have nice trails around here,oh well, maybe next year? The people really didn't ride them too hard though,I was surprised.

Last weekend the trails in the Kalkaska area were actually pretty good. (In terms of snow.) Every once in awhile you'd see a slightly brown corner, but they were so bumpy. The groomers weren't out until saturday night, and we left about 2pm on sunday. We went out early sunday and put the most miles of the weekend on on sunday morning. I'm taking my sled home with my right now, it's spring break, and I figure snow season is pretty much over.
