I am looking at a great deal on a new 04' Mountain Cat 570 1M 136". It would be mostly Michigan trails and groomed trails. Would I be getting myself into a pain in the azz?

I would not buy a mountain sled for trail riding, they are a bit*h going around corners and are alot slower.

If I wwas you I would get a regular trail sled

Ps this is just my opinion

well 136" isnt that bad. do you know the lug size?

itll be slower than you'd think with it though. with a larger sled a longer track is noticeable, but not as bad.

Mostly used in mountainous terrain, appossed to trail riding. Sounds like your better off getting into a good trail sled.

i would look for one more suitable for trails, but i dont think that one would be terrible in them. 136 makes it comparable to the renegade (track wise), and i know people with them and like them. (in fact, we're buying one). then again, those are 800's so they have plenty of power to get the track moving.

if it has like 1.25" lugs on it, it wouldnt be bad.

I have the 03 570 1m with the 136 track and I love it for it's reliability and efficientcy. It has an amazing hole shot and a top speed of 70 mph. I can not complain about the handeling. It is not that long of a track. Mine is not picked, so it doesn't get great traction on hard pack or ice, but does great in powder.

Plus you can pick them up cheap.

I just want to get some more power for climbing.

After much deliberation, I decided not to get this sled (and yes it had a good deal on it too). I am checking out a 01' Arctic Cat ZRT600, from what I researched its a good trail sled with an ability rip up the lakes. We'll see...I visited an old friend at his powersports dealer, sat on a 06' MXZ 370F and fell in love with the 400lb critter. Although I would get the 550F if I do decide on getting one, its only 20lbs more. I also looked at a 04' Polaris 550SS, but it looked pretty cheap to me, steal skids and old skool front suspension (long bar).

if you are a Cat man look into the Crossfire, if you are looking for a "CROSSOVER" sled. I rode one on the trail and they are nice sled to throw into the corners, and shoot out of pretty good.

If you want a fan cooled... get it. Last year, that's the exact sled I rode. It's got 1.4 lugs for anyone that asked. I loved it, the speed wasn't there, with a top speed of about 65-70, but it was sooo fun to ride, just floating in any powder and it was great to break open trails with. Despite mountain sled's reps in the trails this sled isn't that bad. I could easily keep up with 600 liquid short tracks in the trails. Like it was stated before, the holeshot is crazy on that sled for it's track/fan... I beat all the other fan sleds i raced.. even though some of there top speeds are about 15mph higher than mine. Overall, i liked the sled and it was fun to play around with. This year though, a deal too good to pass up on a leftover, and we traded it in... (edit) in case ppl don't know... the ext sabercat i ride now has a track length of 144" so i actually upgraded in track length... but I pretty much solely trail ride... also, sorry i just realized you said you decided not to get it... but my .02$ anyway...
