Conditions still about the same as last reported. Minimal snow and unridable trails around Duluth.
Possibly ridable trails up the North Shore towards Two Harbors.
Northwest Wisconsin is now being groomed.

about 30 minutes north of duluth theres about 10 inches of snow....AWSOME riding conditions and trails are totally ridable...we were riding on the roads. Not sure about duluth but when we went by duluth it looked like they had a pretty good amount too. Where i went in linwood, north east a little of duluth, but not too far from duluth still.

Snow has arrived!
We received about 10" of fresh snow on January 2nd.
Trails north of Duluth are now being groomed. The North Shore Trail (between Duluth and Two Harbors) is now in fair riding condition.
We still need more snow for great riding conditions, but the trails are now groomed and ridable!
Below is a picture taken January 2nd on an eighty mile ride that Dano and I went on. (Dano's sled is on the left and mine is the far right.)

The snow just keeps rolling in! Rode over 110 miles tonight with Dano.
We received well over 6 inches in Duluth and even more along the Northern shore of Lake Superior today.
Dano and I went out for a ride. Great riding! Lots of powder. This snowfall in conjunction with the last snowfall (almost a foot) has made for great riding.
If your looking for the place to ride in Minnesota... there is plenty of snow from Ely to Duluth.
Trail Conditions are fair. Groomers only seem to be running on Thursday or Friday nights before each weekend. Bumpy in spots, but non-the-less very much ridable.

I just got back in town last night from being in the cities for a couple of weeks and can't believe teh snow up here! Can't wait to get out and ride some more around here. I've been riding over in McGregor the past couple of weeks and it's been great over there, probably even better now!

Duluth is getting a couple more inches right now, probably around 4 so far, hopefully a few more before the weekend to freshen things up for riding

EXCELLENT CONDITIONS!
We are again being pounded with snow. Tonight we received about another 8 - 10" of snow.
Total snow depth in the Duluth area and northern MN in excess of 30". If you are looking for a nice area to ride with lots of snow... anywhere in Minnesota within 30 miles of Lake Superior or in northern Wisconsin is in great shape.
Trails in and around Duluth were well groomed (as of last night.)

Snow Depths in Duluth
Im in Duluth about three blocks from the north shore trail. As of today 1-29-05 snow depth is ok off trails but because of the warm weather the last week the trails are getting a little bare. Russ

I did about 100 miles today, over by McGregor, just west of Duluth. Trails were marginal up by McGregor, got worse the farther south we went, down as far as Mille Lacs Lake. By the afternoon they were getting much worse, and that was with hardly any traffic. The lakes are still a blast to ride on though!

I think today might have be near the end of riding in our area. I was out this weekend... It was 50 degrees and the trails are all slush. Many bare spots. It'll take some cold weather and more snow before their good enough again.

Rode 120 miles on the North Shore trail and surrounding area lakes yesterday. It was a lot of fun! Three of us went riding and all agree the trails are still ridable.
The North Shore trail itself is still in good riding shape in most parts... still excellent in the woods... but a few turns on hills that are in direct sunlight are getting very bare. The North Shore trails north of Two Harbors is still good. (Although I am not sure if it is still going to be groomed with this weather.)
The 50 degree weather was bad, but the trail is still good. Connector trails are in fair to poor condition. If you are still riding in northern MN, I suggest riding on the North Shore trail.... anywhere else the snow is a bit slim.

Rode for 4-5 hours yesterday. Trails and fields still have plenty of snow. We received about 3" a couple of days ago that have kept things pretty fresh. Trails north of Duluth are still being groomed regularly.
Still time to ride up here.

Hey, Cobra,
I have never run the snow trails up by Duluth, my son and I are just local ditchbangers down here in central MN, can you give me any tips on best places to go, and where to stay while in the area, as in a hotel that is close to trails, or possibly something where you can ride from where you stay? any information would be greatly appreciated, we were thinking of making a run up midweek while my son is on spring break from school.
thanks a bunch !!

I would definately check out the North Shore Trail. It runs from the north side of Duluth all the way to Grand Marias (spelling?). I think a good starting spot where you could both ride from and sleep would be at Two Harbors. They have several hotels in town that are located close to the snowmobile trail. I think the "Comfort Inn" in Two Harbors would be the most convenient (but don't quote me). Either way. Call up the hotels and see whats available and if they have easy access to the trail system. Like I said... the North Shore Trail will be your best bet. (Groomed regularly and still have lots of snow.)
Have fun. If you want more info let me know.
