Midland Penetang Ontario Jan 30 09

Trails here are open and filled with snow!!! The groomers will have there work cut out for them now! The recent amounts of snowfall over the last two days have been incredible!! The bad news is that there is so much snow on Georgian Bay right now that a snowmobile has to work too hard to get through it! I was on it briefly today in Midland harbour but had to get off because the snow was way too deep! We need it to pack down!! Also this new snow is covering up the chunk ice sections so if you do decide to break trail be carefull and mind your speed! The weather is to be very cold tomorrow but mild on Sunday!

I was out sledding on the bay Saturday. Lots of tough slushy spots to push through and lots of sleds breaking down because the conditions are sloppy! The sleds are overheating and blowing cranks etc. We need a thaw to settle the snow down and then some colder weather to firm it up and freeze that muck! There is lots of ice though. The weather forecast looks good and hopefully by next weekend things will be good to go again! My advice for those wanting to venture out right now would be to stick to the beaten paths and avoid wandering off into the unknown.
