Northeastern Ontario - Kirkland Lake
Some trails open today, Dec 22, 2008.
Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs
I was out on the weekend and the trails are getting better. Still a little bumpy but in much better shape than this time last year, groomed at least. Looks like a good start.

Looks like some rain up there. Any update on trail conditions? Planning on heading up in a day or so. Hopefully the cold snap will freeze things up.

Not much rain yet. The snow doesn't seem to be melting at all apart from on the roads. I hope the trails hold up. I'll update after the temp drops below freezing. Started seeing sled trailers pulling into town as the trails were in good shape before the warm weather hit us.

It started raining lightly overnight and I'm sure the trails have gone to crap. The temperature is dropping rapidly and will be below freezing before lunch. Currently 1C (34F). The forecast is for 6 inches of snow after freeze-up so we may be back on the trails soon. I hope the short windshield crew hasn't been out tearing up the base because it was already getting a little thin in the sharp corners.
Let's hope for the best!

Trails are still in great shape in Kirkland Lake and Area.
We enjoyed low traffic this past weekend on the local trails as most visitors travel the main trunk - "A" trail on their quest for distance instead of mileage and scenery. Many loops can be run from KL on great trails built on old road beds and power lines.
As the trails begin to get worse south of us, the traffic will move north into our area. I expect to see a flood of truck/ trailer rigs jam the local hotels within the next few weeks.

March 15, 2009. Can you believe these are our trails and not our roads? Actually, the trails are probably smoother than most of the local roads!

Enjoying March Break with the kids. Trails are still in great shape, just hard to get to now with the roads plowed down to ashphalt. Dug the trailer out of the snow today just in case we need to trailer to the trail on the weekend.

Trail systems closing to the south and west of Kirkland Lake area. Still a few hardy touring groups from the South migrating up here to enjoy what will probably be the last few weeks of sleding in the area. I'll try and get out to the trails to enjoy one more weekend as I hear there is still a lot of trail base out there.

All the snow is gone now apart from a little left in the bush. We got teased with a little sprinkling this morning, almost enough to ride on
