Usa/mi/mid. Up
my guys went riding today, they said champion/republic looked slim, but they could have rode it. they went up the road, unloaded and went to big bay, said it was not yet groomed, but plenty of snow.

12-26-05 rode from the peshekee grade road to trail 14 then to big bay, 14 on that end was great, 310 was great also. very little traffic, saw four sleds the whole way. ate at thunder bay inn (great food) and took the lower trail (alt 310) back this one needs more snow!! not good at all. rode towards lanse and the snow got thin, went to the bar in skanee. then rode up to MT Averon (the highest point in MI) and back. 120 miles and for the most part great trails.
talked to a few guys who pulled up when we were leaving big bay, they said trail 5 from champion was good, a couple small wet spots, but groomed and nice to ride.

rode today, just got back, rode trail 2 out of iron mountain, up 5, then took the cassidy creek trail over to trail 2 again and up to felch, then rode to sagola and back down trail 5. low snow, but we have a good base and the trails were very rideable. hope to have the pics tomorrow, have to go to work now.

just got home from grooming, we have a nice base with little snow, but it looks and rides really well. i am suprised at how well the trails around here really are.
talked to a friend who rode to republic this weekend, then on the new trail over to amasa and down to crystal falls and back to iron mountain. the trails were decent, but the republic to amasa trail was mostly logging road plowed down.

no locky, i do not, sorry, they are usually kind of hit and miss in the lake effect, i think from here north is the best riding in the UP right now, east hasnt gotten much and houghton area is beat hard from what i was told.
GOOD NEWS THO we were sposed to have 40* temps today and its only 25* at noon. looks like we may keep our base for another weekend.

its never any fun when we go to munising, its like going to chicago, one freeway leading to it from the north, you have to double back all the time, no nice loops. but hope you have a good time, let us know how it is and how the trails are.

1/14/06 trails look a bit more degraded from last weekend, but are still very rideable. put on another 125 miles today. the trail (16) from sagola to crystal falls is in really good condition, as is the grade out of crystal to florence. it looks like republic and north of there got some snow last night, so things are looking good in the center of the UP.
