USA/ New York/Cny/Lower Fingerlakes

I see about 3 inches on the ground now and expect more overnight. Not sure how muche we will get, but it shouldn't melt because the temps will be in the low 30's and 20's for the next 5 days.

NY trails open 21 Dec.

According to the Absolutesnowmobile web site, their trails officially opened Dec. 5th in the Tug Hill area. Some clubs are holding off until Dec. 12 to begin grooming, but some have already started! Time to get the trailer registered...

The forecast is looking good for the amount of snow that will make up the base for the trails this year, we expect to have about a foot for the base and to be able to groom immediatly, or as soon as we get a groomer to use.

skidoomagoo,
Chautauqua Co, NY is 21 Dec. Not sure of the snow levels though as I'm still in Pakistan. Be home Fri. I'll get the report from my buds up there and post for all. Cheers, OB

As of today, we have about 8in of good hard base. the snow that we got the other day was very wet and now it has turned colder. I am looking forward to trail opening on the 21st. we are supposed to get a couple of inches of powder on top of what we have.

Getting some powder on top of the base we already have, tomorrow will be great riding.

I talked to some of the other clubs nearby and they will have their signs ready for the official trail opening tomorrow.

Trails are generally good with 6 to 8 inches of hard snow with 1 to 3 inch of fresh powder on top.

So much for our base, it's now down to about 3 in's. fortunately it's supposed to change back to snow overnight.

Rode up to Tug Hill today. Dropped in Parish. Here are a few pics...

The waterholes in some places were too big to cross safely (with my daughter along).

That looks great! We want to trailer from Western NY up to Tug Hill on Saturday. One of my friend's sons is returning to the U.S. Marines on Tuesday(he graduated boot camp in early December) so it will be a last hurrah with him until he's on leave again. And, it would be my first real snowmobile trip evah!

Where's a good place to park/ride? Are there free trails (as opposed to further east in Inlet, where there's a $50 fee)

The last pic was taken in the parking lot at the Parish exit off 81. You get off, and the Grist Mill restaurant is right there. They have a large parking lot, and they are right on the trail.

Just be warned that the water hole I posted a pic of was about 3 feet deep. One guy launched his brand new Yammi into a tree coming, out of one of the water holes. Broke off his kill switch, and took out a few lower branches in the woods. We stopped to help... took a half hour to get it running again.
