Well, we got about 2.5 - 3 last night and this morning, looking for a couple more each day this week, mixed in w/ some warmer temps. With any luck, we can take an easy ride Friday night and hopefully Saturday night. Keep your fingers crossed Winter sticks around a while this time!

At last, trails are open again, at least for a couple of days anyway.

Unfortunately, the weather forcast says highs near 50 by sat. I hope they're wrong.

No such luck here - both Letchworth State Park and the Wyoming County Trails remain closed. Here's the details from the Oatka Valley Snowmobile Association website...

Trail Update 1/26/06

All trails are closed due to the lack of snow.

We received 5\" to 7\" of snow as of this morning in the south western part of the county, with a little less in the other areas. We had strong winds with the storm that left the fields mostly bare. We had no base to start with. Some areas might be rideable, but not most are not worth riding.

We only have maybe 2-3 inches of snow on the ground here in far Eastern Wyoming County, and the warm weather forecasted will put "paid' to that, I'm sure. As little snow as that is, it's the most we've had at ANY time in the entire month of January. So we'll be heading into the beginning of February with little if any snow. Unbelievable.

we have, for the first time since New Years Day, the ground covered again, but looking at all of hte local club's websites the trails are still closed. I was really hoping to get out tomorrow evening but it doesnt look like it will happen as it is supposed to be in the upper 30's tomorrow climbing into the mid 40's by Sunday with no snow again until early next week.

We managed to get in about 50 miles last night. Ground was covered but there was no base at all, just took our time and rode.... by 10:30 this morning, almost completely gone again. Now w/ rain coming for the next two days we are right back to where we were again.....

This really bites! We're having above average snowfall too... We get 4", and the next day it's 40, 4" then 45, 3" then 38, etc. etc. etc...

BRING IT ON... BABY!!

Woo Hoo!

Okay... I better calm down. They're predicting around a foot or more at home, and almost 3 feet up to Tug Hill.

...and my ZL is sitting in the garage waiting for the new clutch to come.

As I look outside right now, I can't even see the neighbors house that is 500 ft away. I am looking forward to the storm that is predicted for the first part of next week ( a nor'easter), depending on how close to shore it tracks , and how fast it moves, we can get a foot or more from it. I expect to have about another 6 to 8 inches by sunday night. With the wrap around from the big storm, with the lake effect, we can expect to have a decent base by the middle of the week.

Well, we got sick of waiting for snow to get here so we chased it and found some decent riding up in the Turin area. There were still some bare spots and some open water and lots of ice but there is definitely more snow than we have and after three weeks w/o riding it was great just to get out.

I am sure that without fresh snow last night C4 and some of the smaller trails like H5 will be a mess today so if you are headed up there just take your time.

Hey, I've been seeing Turin mentioned a lot. I checked it out, and it's only about 60 miles from my house. Trouble is; I can't find anything that lists drop points. Where did you drop???

I'd love to check Turin out. My weather program shows over a foot of snow there.

rgoers - you can park just about anywhere you want it seems like! Really, we parked this time up at the Timberview Lodge/Timberview Polaris lot on Carpenter Rd, right off Route 26/12D. I guess you can also park at the Towpath at Snow Ridge, or off Bronner Rd. But there was plenty of parking available at Timberview and we didn't get there until about 1:00 last Saturday. There are several small drops as you go up Carpenter Rd, but continue around the sharp bend and park in the lot right across from the lodge and Polaris dealership, easy in and out there. Definitely suggest you avoid C4H between the Timberview drop off and junction 45 as that section of trail was very, very narrow, icy, and had a fair amount of open water last week.

We are very likely going back up this Sunday as we have Monday off (President's day). Let me know if you might be going up, it would be good to meet up with someone from the site!
