Saddle Bag Trip Gone Bad
What started out as a great saddle bag trip on February 26, it quickly went south.
We left the truck and trailer in Houghton Lake on the 26th, and rode into Gaylord. On the 27th near Waters my wife broke the front shock on her rear suspension, I told her not to eat so much for breakfast, LOL. On the way to the repair shop we went over some railroad tracks with not enough snow and my wife bent the right trailing arm on her sled, not enough where we could not continue though.
Back on the trail I discovered that the button that locks my sunshield up on my helmet had broken and now the shield was down all the time, ok during the day but a pain when the sun was going down.
On the 28th near Indian River my Temp light came on, it was full of coolant but the engine was not running right. We towed it back into Indian River (12 miles) where eventually we got it to Burt Lake Marina. They were able to find where a sensor wire had broken off the thermostat and made the engine think it was overheating and it went into "safe mode." They got it fixed and we decided to cut the trip short by a day and head for the truck and trailer, finally getting back to it around 7:30 p.m.
Although the trip was filled with bad luck, we still had fun as it was our annual anniversary trip. We want to give a big thank you to Precision Powersports in Waters and Burt Lake Marina in Indian River for getting us right in and helping us out as I am mechainally incompetent, LOL.
